Shadows....... gee.... read lots about it, but thanks to the loads of information I "CAN" find if I BOTHER to look I now realize I've had them damn boogers all along.  Just didn't even realize anything to do with them, before becoming educated by the wonderful ppl here that are genuine in caring about other sufferers.......I have NO NEED to mention names.......if you know it's you, just know that "I" LOVE you for it.....I know I'm rambling, but bare with me....LOL

Now thanks to finding this site during my last cycle.....I'm working my way to TELLING my doc that I need O2 to try.......learning all I can here so that I know enough to talk with him about it........WITHOUT you guys......would NEVER have known anything about it.

Shadow free today.....but know that visit is coming soon.............ugh..........but I'm loading my ammunition to blast the bastard.

Best wishes for pf moments to all here,
EDNA

I along with Not4Hire are working with DJ to set up a "02" button on the left so newbies will be able to access all the right info they need to bring to their Doc and just how to use it.

Im thinking twice about putting the info I know about converting a medical 02 regulator to fit a welding tank, I dont want some one printing the info out and have a Doc read that, I dont think breathing welding 02 is against the law but im not positive about that.

Anyone know?

We're with you 100% there Edna! This is a truly amazing site and every time I need to ask a question someone's already been there, done that and the answer is soon found.
Get the O2 Edna! It has helped Mopar more than we ever believed it could. We now have multiple tanks - one for the work van, one for the car and the Great Big One in the house. I don't know how he survived without it now.
All the very best with your ammo friend. Lets hope the ha don't arrive at all, but if they do, Waste them with oxygen. Or whatever works.
Happy days to all

I have no idea about the legality of breathing welding O2; however, my neurologist firmly and sternly warned me against choosing that less expensive option due the lack of purity compared to commercial, medical O2. Basically, he stated that the non-medical O2 tanks contained carcinogenic particles (along with other junk) because the oxygen has not been scrubbed. I get the warning and lecture every time a cycle starts.

He convinced me. Since I put enough crap in my lungs with Marlboro Mediums, I figured I did not need to tempt fate any worse than I am already.

Random thoughts on the subject.

." My favorite response to any potential legal battle arising from oxygen administration is "Hell, I'm not giving a drug, I'm administering a welding gas!"

"Also of interest, the suppliers of welding oxygen have told us, the purity level required for welding and cutting purposes is more critical than for breathing."

"Oxygen is oxygen. It is the substance that matters, not the intended purpose. These days, welding, medical, and aviation oxygen are exactly the same."

Jonny - it is not illegal to breath welding o2. It is illegal to prescribe industrial or welding oxygen for human consumption..... However though all 3 grades of oxygen are to my knowledge manufactured with the same process the difference is in the packaging and delivery methods. For medical 02 many deaths have occured due to unsanitary filling and mechanical delivery systems and procedures. The delivery and filling process is tightly regulated to ensure sanitary conditions.  There are possibilities of contamination of the liquid or gas through hoses, valves  etc...         On some highly critical welding applications you find that medically certified oxygen and other gases are required to insure the welds are all done without possible impurities in the welding process.        The oxy is the same but..                     ....mj...

Jarvis,
Someone needs to talk to my O2 supplier.  I receive my O2 from a medical supply company in a WELDING tank with a converted regulator.  The regulator I got from Jonny can be swapped out for the companies easily.  (except that jonny's works and there's doesn't)

I have not had any ill effects from my O2, and it is certified as pure.

The main difference, and correct me if I'm wrong Jonny, is that medical O2 can be delivered in aluminum or stainless tanks and welding O2 cannot.

The legality of it depends, I believe, on your location.  You can breathe the welding O2, that part isn't illegal, but the receipt of the tank could be questioned.  You have to be a certified welder to sign for a welding tank legally (here in upstate NY) and in Ontario.

That's about the best I can do, hope it doesn't confuse the issue any.

Cat - I need to correct myself as I didnt state it clearly, sorry.   The packaging and process are NOT generally different for industrial gases.  The "regulation" of the packaging process for medical gas IS different. Primarily that difference exists to insure that contamination does not occur in the packaging and delivery of that product to it's end use, which is your lungs.   It is not a states issue but a federal issue. Approved and monitored in the usa by the FDA.    ....mj...       btw, if I knew my hoses and valves were clean I personally wouldnt have any problem using welding o2 and I have. Just doesnt work for me no matter how I tried.

The only diff between med 02 and welding 02 is that the med tanks are inspected.

I'm with Jonny here. O2 is O2.

My nurse relative says pretty much the same thing and that the medical O2 thing is kind of a rackett

The family here is a wonderful thing, and you are one of the best supporters here.

Hope you have good luck with the dr., if not, just call me.  I'll bring you some tanks over from Texas.  Doesn't take much to get me to New Orleans, and that would be a damn good excuse.  Just let me know.

Everyone I've talked to here at home, agrees that there is no difference in the welding and medical 02.  I use the welding, just need to get a bubbler.....nose bleeds while sucking 02 don't work too well together.

Hope you stay shadow and PF,

Tracey
