I read about people telling and being told that eventually one will "outgrow" CH.  Is that true?  Does anyone know of anyone who has had them actualy vanish?  I am 62 and had been plagued for l9 years, when can I look forward to this deliverance?  By damn I hope it is soon.

My neurologist says that I should be "out growing".
And I try to grow out my CH since 1982. No success.

Hi Clavers and welcome.

I only know of one or two on this board that stopped getting CH. I wish that were true that all of us would outgrow it. I've had mine for almost 22 years. Nobody really knows why they start and nobody really knows why they stop.

Good luck,

Hi Clavers,
I've had CH's for about 18 yrs and if anything they seem to be getting worse as I get older. The cycles seem to last longer and the h/a's are more frequent...the good news is they don't seem as severe as they used to be.

Well i am not sure out grow is the proper term. More like going into remission.  In 1991 mine stopped and i had not had any till jan 2000  since then i have had them  on a regular basis.

If you live long enough to reach an advanced stage of arteriosclerosis then with the elasticity of the blood vessels will also vanish the clusterheadaches.

There are certainly a few people who get rid of CH before this final stage, but the often quoted 'outgrowing' is probably just one more of those 'facts' about CH that get handed down from one book writer to the next, and none of them with first hand experience of CH  Angry

I'am today 66, have been chronic the last 4 years and no sign of easing up.

JDH, I too used to think that my CHs were getting worse over time (CH for 11years now) but my most recent cycle was one of the mildest I can ever remember having. Just thought I'd share something that might give you a little optimism.

I have not had an attack in just about 12 years. I had them for 22. I have no real idea why this happened but it was during one of the most stressful times of my life. Maybe there really are silver linings. I have to acknowledge that the chance of it being entirely coincidental is probably greater.

Anyway, I was 45 when they diasppeared. I'm not complaining but I wish I knew why. There is nothing that says that yours will continue, however.

Good luck.
