Politics---I think
« on: Mar 13th, 2003, 3:40pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Our Congress is hard at work. Tom Delay and others spend their time and earning their bloated salaries by making inane speeches about the French. One of them has spent his time and our money making a framed “freedom fries” sign for some Congressional eatery.  All this is being done when we are at the brink of the war, our economy is a mess, states are having real financial nightmares, education is bankrupt, and retirees are in dire need of some real prescription help in order to stay alive.
The response of our legislature is to bash the French and others as pansies with infantile speeches. Unbelievable stupidity.

I just read that another of these inquiring minds in Congress, as John McCain calls these idiots, has proposed that it might be cool to boycott the Paris Air Show. This stuff is a celebration of stupidity by goofballs whose only concern is their re-election by appealing to the yahoo constituents, who are the victims of un-funded educational systems.

Thank the gods for these bright lights in Washington who waste time with shit like this rather than encourage things like eduaction, critical thinking, and research that might help people. Even clusterheads.

Charlie,

Wonderful, just wonderful.  Unfortunately, the majority of the public out there is some revved up, redneck asshats whose broader understanding of REAL issues is non-ex-is-tent.

Being in the south, I love to watch these poor white trash assclowns who laud the greatness that is the GOP.  And then I think, "Hey buddy, you are poor, you smell, and your taste in decor is, well, questionable"....Republicans don't LIKE you.

Image is everything.

What a shame and a waste....

Hi Charlie,
They cancelled the AirShow here. We have been waiting two years and now this....bummer.

http://knoxnews.com/kns/local_news/article/0,1406,KNS_347_1793117,00.htm l

Charlie, I agree with most of your post.......however.......

"The French are the largest contractors in the UN oil for food program with Iraq. The French seem perfectly satisfied that the money they pay Saddam for oil goes toward WMD programs and supporting the military. Iraq owes France over $8 Billion in oil IOU's and France has huge oil development contracts with Saddam that require cessation of the UN Sanctions to come to fruition."

http://tinyurl.com/7fw7

http://tinyurl.com/7fx2

The more I learn the more I believe it IS about the oil, just not America's! France has the moral highground? I don't think so.......$$$$$$$$. Would France and Germany ever even think about risking security for MONEY?!

"Germany, Iraqs number one arms supplier?

The most contentious piece of news for Germany is that the report names it as the number one supplier of weapons supplies to Iraq. German firms are supposed to easily outnumber the firms from other countries who have been exporting to Iraq."

http://tinyurl.com/3mkd

So is it morality......or money!?

HMMMMMMM...............

Not starting shit......just want ALL sides examined!

Mark:

No morality involved here at all.....no one is right including us.  Actually, France is behaving foolishly.  However, a successful boycot of Motel 6 and other French owned businesses, would have the effect of  driving out of business, some poor American franchisee and cause others to lose their jobs. Fuckin' stupid beyond belief. Nothing is as black and white as Dubya and short-sighted legislators would have you believe. I don't get it. What's so hard about this?

Pounding our fists and bellowing about French toast, is insipid. It's a waste of time too and makes up look like idiots.

By the way, The Washington Times has almost nothing to do with news. It's owned by Rupert Murdoch and does nothing but bash Democrats and the left. You may have a point about Germany....if true.

Politics---I think

is stupid

and ALL politicians are crooks, thieves and liars.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...........

It's not about terrorists, dictators or weapons of anykind.

It's about oil. Also spelled M-O-N-E-Y.

And Charlie is right..........newspapers have nothing to do with news. They are only in the business to make M-O-N-E-Y.

Freedom fries and all that I think is good....maybe not the right time, but then again, lawmakers either indirectly or directly are sending a signal to France that we are fed-up with their constant sniveling against us.  France, even though they are supposedly our allies, have tried time and time again to be real dingledorfs and it is time we let them know we aren't putting up with it.

This coming from a Frenchman who is fedup with France.

Charlie I think you hit the nail on the head.....the TRUTH, which for some reason I am not sure we will ever get...at least all of it. I also search many, many, news sources and try to make my own judgements based on the information I receive....a lot of work.

" With an average of 1.4 million nightly viewers this month, Fox has had a 17 percent increase in viewership compared with a year ago, according to Nielsen Media Research numbers released Wednesday.
CNN lost 31 percent of its prime-time viewers compared with last year's numbers, with an audience of 921,000. MSNBC continues to languish in third place with a 43 percent drop and 528,000 viewers."

A thought..... why is Newscorp so sucessful...is Murdoch just a rip off or is he selling what people want....and if so why are conservative media outlets suddenly so successful? Most people will agree that Hollywood and the network media in general has had a significant liberal slant....until Rush Limbaugh, who single handedly rescued a format....talk radio. Why in such a short time has Fox News replaced CNN as the top news channel...think...what are peoples motivations for watching one over the other?  Why did the Donahue show fail so quick? What are the reasons behind the failure of the Democrats to communicate their message?

There are many questions and seem to be few answers.

I enjoy these talks with you.......you make me think instead of pissing me off...usually!   ;D

I still want to buy you a cup of coffee and talk some more....one of these days I will.

Richard...glad see you back in the foray! (A French word I think!)

A thought..... why is Newscorp so sucessful...is Murdoch just a rip off or is he selling what people want...
It is well programmed.
They have bought virtually all the available talent.
Their timelyness and connectivity are superior to others.

.and if so why are conservative media outlets suddenly so successful?

Folks do buy a lot of crap.

Most people will agree that Hollywood and the network media in general has had a significant liberal slant....until Rush Limbaugh, who single handedly rescued a format....talk radio. Why in such a short time has Fox News replaced CNN as the top news channel..
Easy. They have prettier telejournalists.
Do not underestimate the power of sex appeal.

.think...what are peoples motivations for watching one over the other?
I like to look at Patty Ann Brown. Very simple.
The news is the mews. The facts are the facts. A happened. B is here.
etc.

Why did the Donahue show fail so quick?
Phil presented himself as an insipid apologist for the terror fiends.
No international criminal escaped his sympathy.
He rendered himself unwatchable .

What are the reasons behind the failure of the Democrats to communicate their message?

They have to reformulate that message.
I do like Howard Dean . But Iraq has to get done.
It is part of protecting the future. Defending Saddam's right to rule is a chump's game. Thinking that he woudn't give a bucket of VX to Al Qaeda is trusting the wrong people to do the right thing.

Al that stuff about the French and Germans arming Saddam for oil futures is the truth. It makes the criticism of the US all the more hypocritical.

As to being impressed by the test bombimg of Florida:
The Japanese were invited to a test. They declined and signaled that they were not impressed. Their mistake. My good fortune. (Dad was sitting in Okinawa at the time awaiting invasion orders.)

Renaming French fries to Freedom fries reminds me of another renaming campaign that happened 70 years ago:

For more than a century frequency is measured in units of Hz, pronounced Hertz, after the physicist Heinrich Rudolf Hertz who proved that energy can be transmitted by electromagnetic radiation.
In the 1930's some brown shirts got into a bad dilemma: They didn't like the name Hertz, but were uneasy to abandon the internationally used unit Hz. Their solution: They continued to abbreviate Hz, but pronounced it 'Helmholtz', after the researcher in acoustics Herman Helmholtz.....

Thanks Ueli. That's a new one. Yer and interesting guy.

What happened to Donohue and some other liberal media types?  Simplicity......or lack of it. Donohue is kinda old too. He was around forever on his old show. The liberal media. Oh really? How about the 627 ultra conservative, crazed, fire-breathers on radio?  "Liberal media" no longer washes.

These guys do well because of black & white answers. People like to relax in front of the TV and radio.  Simple works, reality is not as much fun. Presenting well-debated and balanced material, rarely lets a commentator be silly, which indeed, can be entertaining. People like Alan Burke used to do something similar in the 1960s. It was very popular and his style of broadcasting spawned others. I loved it. I was in high school.

TV and radio have one goal; tons of money. Advertisers love these guys because even those who cannot stand them, tune in now and then. It's a great place to sell crank medical cures and SUVs. People seem to love Fox and it's simple answers. These "we're right and anyone who disagrees, is a communistic, America-hating, devil-worshiper," characters are good theater, especially for those who can't find Iraq on a map.

So, here we are with Bill O'Reilly. I guess we get what we deserve.

geee you guys finally figured out that everything is about  the almighty dollar, yen, deutchmark, peso, ruble ...did I forget any? ok good.
here's another one for ya........politics is a fraternal thing. It always has been and alway will be. So rest assured the same families will be the ruling class when your childrens grandchildren are old enough to vote.
In short, its all a bunch of horse-hockey to keep us all occupied so we don't get in the rich peoples way of trying to aquire all of the money available.
Every war that has ever been waged in any country at any period in history has been about money, whether it was cash, jewels, precious metals, land, etc its all the same, the bottom line = cashish in one form or another.

I agree with that pretty much but I think a case can be made that NOT fighting Hitler was about money; fighting him was not. It's not this simple but it would work great with Rush Limbaugh.
