President Bush will be giving an 8 PM news conference tonight to the nation. This is something he almost never does. Ari Fleischer is giving mixed signals by saying both that it will be nothing startling being revealed, but then following it up by saying in the event of war Bush would want to communicate to the American people. If he's going to announce the begining of the war, this should be a sad day for everyone, no matter if you're for or against it. May the powers that be protect your boys, Ree; your husband, Cat; and all the allied troops. And all the innocent civilians in America, Britain and Iraq.

Ree, I'm hoping your so right about them finding Bin Laden.  My son went off to the army when he was still just 17 and although he had never been called off to war (just to bosnia for peace keeping) I truly understand your worry. I pray for your son's safety and I pray for you and your pain. Being so far away from each other and all the uncertainty can drive ya crazy.

Fox news says Dubya is just gonna flap his chops about the war on terrorism and his appointees for "your royal judgeships".  My take is it's gonna be a lot of nothing.

The government isn't going to announce that they are going to start a war.  It's just gonna happen.  I'm not "pro-war" but if it has to happen they better make it big.  All out.  So help me, if our government ever commits to another drawn out, hangin' around war like Nam, I'll declare war on Washinton myself!

I'm with all of you on this. No matter what happens, I want all our kids and families to be where the other guy's bullets ain't.

You're right. Bush doesn't do this kind of thing and  maybe bin Laden has been found running Dairy Queen in Newark, New Jersey.

I assume Bush would do what his father did and only announce a war after the fact.  One thing I never forget is what an old friend reminded me: It's what you DON'T hear that's important.

Good luck to us all.

Thanks suzy for the kind words... I got an email from the ship already and every word  from my son, will be a gift to me now. I am journaling my thoughts and words each day to my son... In the words of our president... its all up to Sadam Husein now...why are we blaming ourselves? It is all up to him now... Disarming is a much better word than WAR... I'm for disarming....

Charles de Gaulle

This is NOT a parody or a spoof---this is TRUE. This French aircraft carrier broke its port propeller on its first long-distance trials. The French Navy announced that a blade on one of the aircraft carrier's two propellers broke off when the 40,000-ton vessel was making its way from Guadeloupe in the French West Indies to the US naval base at Norfolk, Virginia at 25kts. The break occurred in the vessel's port propeller, which weighs 19 tons and measures 5.8m in diameter. Divers were unable to recover the missing blade.

The breakdown, which is the latest in a long line of complications that have beset the Charles de Gaulle since it began sea trials in February 1999, is expected to greatly increase the overall cost of Charles de Gaulle, Europe's only nuclear-powered carrier. The bill currently stands at around Ffr20 billion ($2.7 billion), including Ffr500 million for modifications and repairs to resolve problems that occurred during earlier trials this year.

Among the modifications was a 4.5m extension of the carrier's angled flight deck because the initial design was found to be too short to accommodate the Northrop Grumman E-2C Hawkeye early warning aircraft deployed aboard Charles de Gaulle in certain combat situations.  That's right-- they built the deck too short to take-off and land the planes! Vive La France....NOT!

Can you believe these idiots have VETO power in the UN?
