August 2000 Headache News
Watch out for "imaginary invalids" on the world wide web. An article in the July issue of Southern Medical Journal discusses the presence of pretenders in a variety of health-oriented news groups and chat rooms, including headache discussion forums. These individuals fabricate stories about multiple illnesses and life problems in order to gain the group's attention. If challenged, they are often effective in disrupting the group and causing members with genuine health problems to resign the group in disgust or disillusionment. Among the warning signs indicating phony disease claims: (1) posts that copy material in other posts or other web sites, (2) lengthy postings that do not fit in well with the claimed severity of illness, (3) "soap opera" style postings that claim one catastrophe or amazing event after another, and (4) exaggerated symptoms and telltale misunderstandings of the disease or disorder -- for example, one person pretending to suffer from severe migraines also claimed that playing the drums in a nightclub distracted him from his pain and helped pay for pain medication.

The other night I had a KIP 10.  The SOB actually pushed my eye out of my head.  Realizing that I had a serious problem I wrapped my eyeball in a water soaked sock and put it in my pocket.  Then got in the car and drove to the hospital,  had the interior light, windows down and the radio at full blast.  I needed that to help ease the pain.  Once at the emergency vet clinic they washed my eye off, pushed it back in my head with the butt of a screwdriver and gave me a tylenol.  Feel better now - that stuff works wonders.

Last night it happened again.  Called an ambulance this time.  Snow and Ice on the freeway.  We crashed -- I died.

This morning I stubbed my toe on an army tank, didn't see the damn thing.  The Vet forgot to take the sock off my eye.  I didn't realize it until now.  Thought it was the shadow.

Why anyone would "fake" an illness to be on a Message Board is beyond me.

Just another group of persons who I wish I could give the Pain of a Cluster, to. Even for just a minute.

Maybe we should ask the TP question. When anyone tells me, "Yeah, I get them, to." I ask them how much Toilet paper or Kleenex they go through, during an attack. If they say "whattya mean, toilet paper?" or "Yeah, I get diarrhea from them, to." I know their lying. ;D
