Hi Guys-
I just started dating this guy who says he has cluster headaches.
he says they start in the back of his neck and move up to the base of his skull and it just sits there.
He also told me that they CAN be seasonal, thats why they are called "clusters".
is this true? does he have "cluster" headaches, or maybe just migranes???
Im just looking for info. And response is appreciated as I KNOW you are not doctors

Hi Gail,
That is not a whole lot of information to make a determination. If you go to the OUCH website (link provided on left highlighted in yellow), there is a quiz. That quiz is what I used to help me determine if I had CH or not. Of course, I did go to the neurologist to get "diagnost" as a CH sufferer, bu that quiz is a gem for getting the basic information.
Just curious as to why it would matter if he had them or not. It isn't contagious.

3. IT MATTERS because I like him a lot. I KNOW I cant do anything for him, but If I can get INFORMATION.....now, that WOULD be something.

Sure it is. Look at where they pain's located. "he says they start in the back of his neck and move up to the base of his skull and it just sits there."
Doesn't sound like it touches anywhere near the sensory branches of the trigeminal nerve and therefore it doesn't sound like clusters.
Gail, you might try researching information on cervicogenic headaches for him. Good luck and I hope you find the info you're looking for.

Wow.... I'm new but.... wow.... I hope I don't ask the wrong question. I've sufferered from these bastards for 16 years.. (Trust me, I have clusters!! Classic case.) Yet I don't blame others for not knowing what they are. It took me 5 years of fear before I found out what they were!!

All of you have really good things to say.
I came to this site because I wanted to know if there was ANYTHING I could do.....again, even if it was information.
I know your not doctors, I was just looking for the laymans answer. No one kows more than those who suffer from something.
I have pseriosis. I have had it since I was 12 years old so I do know about having a horrible disease that you have to live with.
I look forward to staying and asking questons and look forward to your continued support and understanding.

Sorry if you know anyone in lots of pain. To give you an idea about clusters: They are frontal and usually hit behind an eye. The pain comes on very fast and goes away just as quickly. It's so intense no one can sit still. Clusters will wake you out of a sound sleep and you're likely to have several a day. They come in cycles of several day for weeks or months. They are bunched like this which is why they are called clusters.
There are no pain medications that will do anything serious for the pain of a clusters.
What you have described so far does not sound like clusters. Take the test and if you think it's CH, tell us more. We'll make nice.

Don't take too much offense to anything said here. Fact is, there are a lot of knowledge knowledgeable people here that do care a lot. I think you can understand why some people would be less than pleased to write a long, time-consuming, heart-felt response to someone who's just playing games.
Anyway, if you do find out your guy is a clusterhead, make sure you get over to the supporters board. There's a lot of people in your same situation. Have a wonderful day (and stay warm)

I don't mean to be a bitch, but if you were looking for such simple information without BS, all you had to do was click on the "cluster Traits" button on the left. Here you'll find a multitude of information and you won't ever have to worry about anyone being mean. ;D
