Saw a new GP today

I have had episodic CHs for the past 13 years, and though it took four years to teach my GP about them... he has been taking good care of me for the past 9 years. Never have seen a Neurologist.
I have been on verapamil for several years (tried other stuff that doesn't work), have a Rx for O2... currently have 6 "E" tanks... and this week that combination quit working, so I tried to make an appointment to see my doctor. Bad news... he is on vacation all week.
So... I stupidly decided to make an appointment with another GP I have dealt with a time or two at the same office (never for clusters though). I almost cancelled at the last minute thinking it was going to be a waste of time.
Anyway I reluctantly showed up for the appointment. I described my CH symptoms, mentioned all the meds I have tried over 13 years that did not work, all the meds I have tried over 13 years that do work. The GP admitted to only having one other CH patient... but agreed that I have CHs (I already knew that)... and I got six free doses of Maxalt-MLT... plus a prescription for six more (kewl Smiley)... and a referral to a neuro. He said I would have to see my regular doctor next week if I wanted Imitrex injectable (understandable from a doctor you have seen once).
I mentioned Dr. Kudrow... if you have CHs and live close by..."he's the man" (I live about 20 minutes away)... The GP said he watches "Friends" all the time... actress with the same name. I told him the relationship between the two. Guess I'll see what happens.
Maybe some GPs are o.k... even if you are a new patient... but go in armed with knowledge

Frank,

Sorry to hear you are still at it! I kinda figured you would be winding down by now.  At least you got the MLT version - melts in your mouth, not in your......

Hope things get better.
