I got a diagnosis!!!!

After many, many Dr. appointments, with my GP telling me it wasn't cluster headaches if I just started getting them now (age 29) he says I would have had to start getting them when I was around 16-17. Then MRIs and CT scans coming up normal. I finally scheduled an appointment with a neurologist and he diagnosed me with Horton's cephalalgia. My fiance' looked it up on the I-net and started chuckling. "Guess what, you have cluster headaches". Even after everything I went though, I still didn't think it was funny though. I was hoping Hirton's cephalalgia was a polite term for Hypochondriac or something. No offense to all the sufferers but I was almost hoping for a tumor rather than CHs. I can't imagine having to live like this year after year! Kudos and admiration to all those of you who have. You all are some tough SOBs!!!!! Love ya all,

Hi Deerene, Welcome to the board. I'm wondering why that fool of a Dr. would tell you that you had to have been 16-17 when you start getting them?? You can get them at any age, just look around here. Hope you dumped him for good, stick around, you'll learn alot here. suzy

Good to hear from you deerene! Wizard's first rule: "People are stupid." Some doctors especially so!! Mopar's first doc asked him if he had a drug problem!! Mopar replied "NO! Have YOU?" That was the last appointment with that doctor who was lucky not to need hospital help after such a comment! Glad you saw a neuro tho', but wonder if you received any meds to help? Mopar said he too wished his condition was caused by something that could be surgically removed......... he was almost disappointed when scans showed nothing. He has been chronic for three years and says he still hasn't come to terms with it. I say he does REALLY WELL. Sure are tough cookies, CHers!! Some people are tough, some are not, and others just talk tough. But in the end we all find a way of dealing with it. The only other option is beyond consideration for most people. Whatever happens, LIFE keeps rolling on like the great juggernaut that it is. You will find an answer and this is the best place to look for it. Mopar hasn't found an answer yet, but we will keep right on looking. We MUST NOT weaken! PFDAN and be as happy as you can firebrix and Mopar

Your talking to a clusterhead who also has a brain tumor just diagnosed a couple of weeks ago after my Neoro ordered an MRI. TRUST ME - you want either one. Welcome though as one Newbie to another! You'll find lots of good people here with tons of great info. So pull up chair and grow some extra-thick skin.

Thanks everyone for your support. I REALLY do appreciate it. It just gets so frustrating when the rest of the world cannot even begin to comprehend. My boss, after giving me alot of hell for missing so much work "I missed more than any other employee in 2002" Wow, do I get a reward for that or what? anyways, he acts like he knows everything about CHs and says, well at leastonce they stop you don't have them again for at least a few years. I understand that only some are that lucky although I don't know the stats. As far as medications right now (thanks to all the drugs my GP has had me on I haven't had CH in about 3 weeks so I don't know if the cycle is just up or if it is the meds. Anyways, I am on Butalbitol for the headaches (was taking 3-4 daily, and am down to not having one in 2 days), plus I also take amitriptaline at night and carisoprodol 2x a day for the neck pain. Boy I had like 2-3 weeks where I was a zombie and barely able to work but my boss was happy I showed up. As soon as my neuro gets me weaned off these meds he said he will start me on some sort of program. Don't know what it is yet ???
