Slammy, For a med. priced Syrah/Shiraz (same grape) I look to Australia (they have living Shiraz vines from 185. At the restaurant, I’m pouring an Australian Shiraz by the glass made by Rosemont Estates, “Hills of Gold”, from Mudgee, but the Barossa Valley is my favorite Australian region for Shiraz. I also like Penfolds, “Kalimna Bin 28”. They have a pretty consistent growing season down under, so vintage is not as critical, at least in the last few years. TAWNY PORT: I like your choice of tawny port, especially for the home. It lasts much longer after being opened, than other ports. Without breaking the bank, I like Dow’s 10, 20 or 30 year old tawny. The through line of the flavor profiles for each of these tawnys, is redolent of lightly toasted hazelnut, with just a touch of honey. Great stuff. David J.

Slammy, I'm not near the expert at this....but we do like wine. I always try to find the best tasting for the cheapest price. If you like Syrah/Shiraz, you will probably like Cotes-du-Rhone.....some of these are real inexpensive, but real good too. Like David said, the Rosemount Diamond Label is very good, Lindeman's Bin 59, and Black Opal are good too. In Cotes-du-Rhone, we drink E & M Guigal, Jaboulet, and La Vieille Ferme. All of these are under $12-13. Whenever we open a bottle, we have 5 people drinking, so it has to be cheap but good. LOL Jimbo--sorry, I have to disagree with you....wine is pretty damn quick!!!! You'll be on your butt before you know what hit you .

We used ta get tagether at a freinds and play a game called 'Passout'....(I still have the game)...where ya had ta drink so many drinks on certain spaces ya landed on throwin the dice, if ya got on a 'draw a card space' it'd have a tongue twister ya had ta recite in fronta everyone and not screw up or else ya yad to go back to start or drink so many drinks (one spot would say 'lite up' and I have no idea what that ment...evil grin)....we passed round the Mad Dog and the Ripple. Idea was ta get around the board and not pass out drunk...fer me....it was PEUK out....blahhhhh !! Course that was when it was legal ta drink 'n drive. I actually don't think I have ever drank...quote....good wine ! Got sum friends that make sum dam pretty good homemade wine but it tastes more like white lightning......last time I drank a full bottle I was found sittin on the ground by my truck bangin my head....not ta music either !!! (had my own lill private peuk fest). Beer does me better these days and drink of choice....it's safer fer me lets say....Pam

Hey Cootie- Equal time for Boone's Farm Stawberry Hill, ifyapleeze... just thinking about it gives me a residual buzzzzzz Or, or, didja ever get into Thunderbird? Well, now, talk about rotgut, I'm still not into wine- maybe I was cured early!!! Somm, you must be just reeling right now, and for that, I apologize-we were young and desperate to try it all- if it was cheap, of course!! I have found something that is like nectar to me- Ice Wine.....Lake Okanagan, interior BC, we tried it for the first time- didn't bother to memorize label, and I NEED more! More like an aperitif, definitely two layers- the cold, then the grape- more of a sensation than a taste. we brought home a case, but that was 2 yrs ago- what do you know about these ice wines? Can you enlighten us? Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane, Cootie

| We played that game too, but then we decided there was a better passout game. The rules were, the caller said the tongue twister (there were only 2 of us myself and another guy that knew it well enough to do it as callers) and each person had to repeat it round the room. Then the 1st and 2nd were said, and each person had to say the 1st and 2nd and so on. If ya screwed up ya had to drink and say it all over. If you screwed up 3 times in a row you had to down your drink (alcohol, wine or beer) and start from scratch. Here's the 10: 1 fat hen a coupla ducks 3 brown bears 4 fast hares 5 filthy women fixin for a fuck 6 simple simons goin to the fair 7 siamese kittens sittin on a fence 8 elongated alligators elevated in an elevator 9 nude nymphos kneeling near a nook I'm not the pheasant plucker I'm the pheasant pluckers son sitting plucking pheasants til the pheasant plucker comes. I challenge any and everyone to this tongue twiser pass out at the next convention Cat
