Gotta get this off my chest...

There are always valid reasons for not attending the annual OUCH Convention. 1. I cannot afford it. 2. I can't get off work. 3. Sickness (either you or family member) 4. Death (either you or family member) But I keep hearing "I can't go because it is in Dallas and it is too hot. I have heard the same excuse for Davenport because it is too cold. We are not camping out! You get off the plane, walk outside to get in an air conditioned taxi, you get outside the taxi to get into the air conditioned hotel and most never leave the hotel all weekend. The temperature in the hotel is around 70 in Dallas and around 70 in Davenport. Give me a break. We have the world renound guru of clusterheadaches Prof. Goadsby coming to our convention and it is too hot OUTSIDE. I started a thread below in the Dallas Convention section on who is coming. Very few have stated that they are. I am hoping it is just too early for everyone to have gotten their registration in. But saying I am not coming because of the temperature appears lame to me. Fire away.

It's actually closer to 80 in the DavCon atrium because of that damned pool.

Bull! You went to DavCon. I saw you there with a Jimi Hendrix T-Shirt on. So I'll bet you show up in Dallas too. So stop with the excuses already.

| No match between your toes today. Found Clusterville not long after the Vegas convention, looked like a nice accomplishment and strong bond. The excitement of Atlanta took hold in Spring and made plans with another member but didn't get it done. Missed a lot of great comradrie that Summer and left the board. Tuned in again before Vancouver and it was out of reach, another excuse. Left again, also missed upper New York, described as the Woodstock of clusters. Came back late 2003 and jumped in the Nashville meet finally. So many things happened. Like meeting Jimi and Ruthie for breakfast the final Sunday morning, Ruthie smiling, Jimi was on a roll with me. Here on the board, thoughts and feelings can be hard to equate with words only. Related in person, they can store in memory. Not the words or sentences said, I wouldn't remember a word he said, but it doesn't prevent me from remembering his expressing so much heart and soul placed in me from just listening to Jimi. Thereafter I had to then go back to the hotel, pack and leave, but never left the board again. Well spoken, Jimi. I know where it comes from. Maybe hard to read but this little guy's debut cartoon in '55, said differently, has an aspect of little Jimi in him.

You may call me whatever you like Jimi, but Dallas in July ain't happenin'. While being inside the hotel for conference attendees is all well and good, some (like us) are NOT attendees and are along for the VACATION. Sitting in the air-conditioned hotel with our fingers up our butts waiting for the sessions to be over is not much of a vacation. And since it might be the only vacation we get, it's doubly not happenin' this way. Call me a wuss or a girl thingy (that's NOT what I wrote) or whatever you like, but I don't even like WISCONSIN's heat in July, I AM NOT going south to seek out more! FLAME (LAME) away.

Ya know, there are other reasons that aren't on your list that some people might consider to be just as valid (if not more so) as the ones you've listed. People will come or they won't. Some will stay home even though they want to be there, and some will stay home for other reasons. Not sure it's our place to make value judgements about their reasoning. Just my two cents.

Reasons for choices aside, I think Jimi is just being encouraging and trying to lower resistance to going due to it being hot in Dallas, showing the temp can be overcome as a deterring factor in itself for deciding. Considering people live there, it could seem lame.

As a family vacation spot, I can see where the Dallas visitors/tourist bureau might have a tough job promoting Dallas in July.

Looks like the Blakester & I will be headed that direction (if all works out). Spending time with a bunch of Clusterheads is a good time indeed. Hey Jimi.....can't wait to hug your neck. Oh...Miss Ruthie might need two (2) fans in Dallas..... Much Love, Jackie
