At this evenings meeting, Dylan was named to be the new student Editor of Our Voice. The teen written newspaper he's been writing for for nearly 2 years. He was so excited, he thought his application didn't come across well, but I think his dedication and hard work is what set him apart, as well as he never realy has trouble saying what is on his mind, something that is needed when writing a good editorial or opinion piece. I'm proud of him. He's done good.

You go, Dyl! Some of my most memorable times were when I wrote for the UWM Post - I felt as though I was really making a difference. That's what awaits you as well. Knock 'em dead! Bill

I want to take this opportunity to invite anyone in the CH family to "formally" congratulate Dyl on this venture within the very publication itself. Below is the email I sent inner office. I don't expect anyone to do this, only making the offer if you would so choose to. Quote:Two Months ago, Our Voice introduced the addition of Happy Ads: A means of generating additional revenue of this publication by inviting Parents, Teachers, Coaches, as well as students et al, to participate in a “classified” type of service. I want to extend the opportunity for all of the SPJ staff to get involved in kicking off this piece by saying thank you and best wishes to Graduating student editor Samantha Langlois and the newly named student editor Dylan Flick. The cost is a nominal $15.00 per ad, and not only will you be congratulating these two very hard working and dedicated students, but also you will be a part of the kick off of the first example of how Happy Ads work. Thank you in advance and I’m sure I can speak for everyone involved, that we appreciate your support. Please direct all question to my email address. Again, thank you. pflick@cwnews.net |
| If you would like to partisipate, please let me know ASAP. The method is as follows. Quote:We’ll compile your wishes and publish them each month in Our Voice. Students - tell your friends Happy Birthday! Mom’s and Dad’s, congratulate that Graduate, or that Honor Roll student. Each 3-2/3 inch by 1 inch full color ad is only $15, and you can buy as many spaces for your message as you choose. We’ll choose an appropriate Smiley face for your message at no extra charge. E-mail your Happy Ad message to: pflick@cwnews.net or bring them in to the Stevens Point Journal Ads and payment due by the 1st Friday of every month. You can bring your money to the Stevens Point Journal, Attention Our Voice Happy Ads or your parents can mail in a check, or money order to Our Voice Happy Ads 1200 Third Court Stevens Point WI 54481 Checks and money orders should be made payable to: Stevens Point Journal Happy Ads 5000615643 |
| Please note that no profit is made from this. All advertising dollars go only to offset the costs of printing and mailing this piece. (Trust me we are NOT making a dime from this)

What is so cool about this, is that each and every student that writes for this publication is working for scholorship money from the Boy's and Girls Club. Any revenue above and beyond our costs is donated right back to the BGC Org. The last 9 months has been tough as we haven't brought in enough revenue to cover the costs. With new blood at the (corporate level) helm, there is a very real possibility that this publication could die, as they weren't in at the groud floor to understand the importance of this as the future spark of Journalistic interest for these kids. Losses are at about 1000.00 a month with printing and postage costs. A year ago we were donating 2000.00 a month. The economy sucks. On the bright side, MARK MOTORS, the largest advertising supporter is donating the use of a Ford Hybred Pickup for the parade this weekend that will help celebrate the City's 150th anniversary. We are "false fronting" the paper with a replica of the 1873 edition of our paper, as well as the newest publication to benefit the local community, Our Voice. I'm hoping that this exposure will gain more community interest in this publication. Wow guess I needed to get this out and I went farther than I wanted to. This is priceless experince for these kids, and I guess I'm dedicated to the "cause". Thanks for just reading. Love you all.
