My Weekend!!!!!!!!

Last weekend I had company and lost a LOT of sleep (a friend from Houston who doesn't SLEEP!!!) So this past weekend I had planned -- SLEEP - do nothing - relax.. WRONG!!!! It was Wildflower Trails weekend in Cass County (big deal in the country - carnival, parades, rodeo - the whole works) and RELATIVES from Houston!!!! With KIDS!!! (2 and 12) My son and grandson showed up to see the cousins and Granny ended up with all the small kids while the BIG kids played. think I'm getting too old for 2 year olds. Friday night (or Saturday morning - about 2 a.m.) I'm trying to remember what it is that puts a 2 year old to SLEEP!!!! I'm thinking seriously of some Jack Daniels in a nice warm bottle of milk!!!!! Two older kids are asleep, but 2 year old wants to PLAY!! - he's eated, he's dry and now he thinks it's playtime!!! No!!!! It's granny's BEDTIME!!! After we FINALLY get to sleep around 3 or so, the BIG kids just have to call and wake Granny up to see how the kids are (did I mention there's a little alcohol involved in the Big kids playtime?). So after no sleep, Granny B drags herself up around 6:30 and fixes breakfast and gets the kids ready for the big parade in Linden (whoopie). The kids are all going to be on a float with another relative... We actually made it to the parade - the kids acted good (no one fell off the float - they threw the popcorn balls to the bystanders - didn't hurt anyone and the damn thing was over by 2 in the afternoon!). Then I get to come home and cook dinner for the troops. The all come in, eat up and take off for the rodeo - rest at last..... wrong!!! Big kids call... we're bringing the kids back to the farm -- the were in the "animal scramble" and all of them got an "animal". Oh wonderful -- more animals - just what we needed. Turned out to be a chicken and two guinies (didn't spell that one right). No food for them, but here they are granny - and we're going to the carnival now... Ok, so I've got three birds... About midnight they show up with the kids - but have to go somewhere for a while. Ok.... Put the kids to bed and hope they don't come home... About three in the morning I get a call... "Can you keep the kids tonight - we'll keep Buddy (my Big son). You don't want to know what I said about that time - it would have been worse had the phone woke any of the kids!!! From what I understand, the Big kids closed down the VFW and then went over to an uncle's and he sent them home about 4 in the morning (they were staying at an Aunt's house - she lives in DC but has a 'guest house' here). They watched the sun come up, solved all the world's problems, etc...... None were in good shape Sunday. The small kids fared much better. Granny was pooped. Last night about midnight (or one - I've lost tract of time) the nephew and small kids went back to town and granny finally got to bed. I think they're on the way back to Houston this afternoon. They won't be back till Thanksgiving -- maybe I'll be rested up by then...... Ya know -- I love company and I love my nephew and my little great-nephews, but this old granny is plumb tuckered out today. At least I didn't get hit with a headache while they were here. That's about as positive as I can get today. Maybe after I rest for about a month......... Hugs BD PS I talked the kids into giving their Uncle the birds for his birthday (today) - I know he's so pleased and will love them. (Ok, so I owed him one!) But my son and grandson brought me a new dog who's owner's didn't want him so I now have Roscoe - a Jack Russel Terrier (or terror). My life just keeps gettin' better and better.

So you inherited a Jack Russell, eh? You had better forget about getting any sleep for a while. They are cool little dogs with energy that I wish I had. Hope you get some rest soon, Barb.

| Your power of thinkin' got misinterpreted in between entertaining crackerjacks and making flapjacks. surprises are the best though. Good thing you weren't thinkin' Wild Turkey. Maybe for Thanksgiving.

They called you at 3 am Barbara to check on the kids? You better be in the hospital, or dead to call here at 3am!
