Another Night (Poem)

Another Night
Another night begins like any other with exhaustion. Saying my prayers and snuggling with my pillow, I drift off, but only for a little while.
In a sweat, I wake with a start, the stabbing, searing, pain in my right eye, all too familiar. I fumble with my oxygen tank and begin to breathe. My bloodshot eye is tearing, my nose is running and I struggle to control my breathing.
Inhale, exhale, it won’t be too long now. Inhale, exhale, I can’t stand this much longer. Inhale, exhale, how long has it been? Oh God, don’t let the “why me’s” begin! Inhale, exhale, it’s losing its grip on my eye. Inhale, exhale, I’m going to make it. Inhale, exhale, whoopee, no trex shot this time, Inhale, exhale, just a few more breaths. Inhale, exhale, exhausted I turn off the oxygen.
Even more exhausted, I lay myself down to rest, hoping and praying that it will last until dawn. A couple hours later it begins again.

While you are busy inhaling and exhaling, let me burn that candle for you safely far away enough that it wont cause a fire and kneel down to say an extra prayer for you.
You know what ? I was told : " That good man Ray, he is stronger than you can ever imagine, but I have got him and he will be alright ".
