It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Unfortunately I saw portions of the first video while watching the news this morning and I read articles about the next two stories that you posted. All of them turned my stomach and made me wonder where in the hell people have gone wrong. Then this afternoon while I was outside playing with my dogs, I noticed one group of little boys in my neighborhood playing football. Another group of little girls were riding their tricycles and my 6 year old neighbor, Dana came over to fill me in on what happened at school today. First graders are such little social butterflies. I came back in the house, checked my e-mail and received news from one of my "Care Package Marines", David who is in Baghdad telling me that he was doing well despite seeing a few of his friends injured by IEDs. He said his friends have recovered and are back on duty and thanked me for the goodies that he received. I guess after seeing these innocent kids playing and reading David's e-mail made me realize that there is still lots of good left in this world even though at times we have to look really hard to find it.

I haven't looked at the links, I tend to steer clear of things like this. I know its living in a bubble BUT I cannot get the nasties out of my head once they are there, so I try to avoid details.

Carolyn - seems all the news is bad or politics (that's kinda redundant isn't it?)... I'm about ready to get me some robes and sandles and start passing out flowers (some of us are old enough to remember those days....) PEACE Hugs BD

The polygamist group originally centered around Hildale and Colorado City can be traced back to 1847. After being excommunicated by the main LDS church in the 1930's, the FLDS was raided by federal officials in 1944 and again by agents of the State of Arizona in 1953. After the 1953 raid turned into a public relations disaster, with many newsreels portraying the separation of families by government officials, there has been a distinct reluctance on the part of officialdom to interfere with the FLDS. The situation has continued to develop in isolation--and now we are here. Not wishing to be an apologist for this group's "peculiar institutions" (and I am as appalled as anyone by their practices) , but if one wishes to look further into the history and practices of the LDS church in general and the FLDS in particular, one has to be wary of source material, whether it's acquired on the internet or through traditional print sources--there's a long history of anti-Mormon literature that bears a distinct bias and slant. I'm not LDS, but I know a bit about it. It's a real briar patch. Caveat emptor. No matter what happens in the present situation, it's been cooking for a while--and it's going to take a long time to be resolved. Best wishes, George

I have good friends who are Mormon (he was a Bishop for awhile) and would not have known it if someone else hadn't told me. Don't think we ever even talked about his religion. When I was a manager for Goodwill, we would have young Mormons who were on their missions who would volunteer for us, best damn workers I ever had. Polite, mannerly and a wonderful work ethic. Now as to FDLS, they are a strange bunch and I know they've been around for awhile. AND, I'd bet you any amount of money that if that girl hadn't called the authorities, they'd still be ensconced in their little compound.

Very interesting and a nice post George. I like it. Only slightly related but of the scores of missionaries that come to my little town every year, I find that not many of them know much of the church's origins. I like talking with them. Nice kids, mostly. Charlie
