Kids terrorizing teachers...

Did ya'll hear the news yesterday? Two (not just one) incident of KIDS Plotting to hurt their teachers!!! Now the kids are arrested and What the hell is going on.
One plot was pretty planned out - several students involved and the teacher didn't have a clue. The other was just put something in her drink (not too well planned).
This was played at least once an hour all day yesterday - my question - how many other "grade school" kids got an "IDEA"?
Do WE really have a RIGHT to know all these details? Or would it be better to keep us in the dark and maybe prevent some other kids from getting ideas of copying these crimes?
The more I hear about things like this the more I'm glad my education days in public schools were done back in the "olden days" when teachers just called your parents and you got your rear spanked when you acted up. Or you got to write, "I will behave in class" a thousand times (my hand still hurts from that one) until you believed it.

yeah, I heard about it, I would like to hear the reasons why these kids plotted against the teacher  ..maybe she wasn't sucha nurturing figure after all...
Did you heard about the girl who deliver her baby in the bathroom and then tried to flush him? She said she did not know she was pregnant and nobody noticed it? she did not know about pregnancy but she knew all about having sex? at 14?????

People these days seem to think they have some preordained right to know everything there is to know about everybody and every situation that pops up. I disagree. Don't get me wrong, there are newsworthy things happening that people should know about and if it is newsworthy and should be reported, report it and move on. There's no need to show it over and over, every 15 minutes for days or weeks on end. I think all the attention the media heaps up on these situations just makes it more likely for them to occur again in the future. They burn them into the heads of impressionable people who somehow learn that this is the way to get attention and resolve their issues. I wonder how many school shootings there would have been since Columbine if the media hadn't so saturated the airwaves with the story, spending every spare minute showing it over and over again?

The law is one sword and CPS is the other and we are all scrambling in the middle.
Kids rule and we drule.
Fighting for what is right has lately become a legislative issue. It sucks and i dunt like it.

I only heard about the plot thought up by the 8 or 9 kids--here's my thoughts:
it was wrong, I bet they were copying some movie they saw, I'm not sure which is more wrong--what they did or the fact that they are being charged (an 8 year old on trial?) c'mon now...an 8 year old is just a little kid...they don't have it in them to carry that kind of thing out. In my opinion.
Why don't the parents know what they are bringing to school? Why not hold them accountable rather than an 8 year old?
modified to say: didn't the law used to be that parents would be held accountable? Now an 8 year old can be arrested and brought to court? What about the parents--no accountability--rather the 8 year old is accountable? Something wrong there.

In the Georgia case, it was a special ed classroom and the teacher had over 30 years experience. Why did the kids plan to do this? Because she had gotten on to one of them for standing on a chair. They actually had it very well planned out, with kids having specific *duties*.
And I do wonder just what in the hell these kids have been watching on tv.
Three of the kids are being charged in the juvenile court system with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and possession of a weapon on a school property. OTherwise they are too young to be charged.
IMHO, the parents should be charged, not the kids.

I watched Bugs Bunny, The Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello, The Bowery Boys, Tom and Jerry, I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, Combat - and an assortment of horror movies that i somehow managed to watch under my parents "evil eye" - like "psycho", "whatever happened to sweet baby jane", every paul newman movie knownto man,..............it goes on sex, violence, all of it.
I learned right from wrong from my mom and dad. Not tv.
The problem today is that mom and dad are NOT ALLOWED to enforce the rules beyond "time outs" and other similar nonsense that DOES NOT WORK and will continue to deteriorate this country.
Prosecute the kid? Mayhab i think  Or else Uncle Sam should just STFU and let families alone.

If your 2 year old reaches for an electrical outlet, you swat his hand and say No! After two or three times, they learn that if they mess with an electrical outlet they will get in trouble. Why then would you not teach an 8 year old that their actions have consequences?
After five years working in a maximum security lock-up for juveniles, trust me, you definitely want to punish them on the first offense. You want to make the experience so horrible that they never want to return. If you don't, they will likely be right back in a short period of time.
Most of the kids I saw in my time as a juvenile detention officer were repeat offenders because the judges kept letting them off with a slap on the wrist. We even had a judge order the wheel man in a drive-by shooting released from the facility daily for driver's ed training. We were like, WTF? So if we had the shooter in custody, would we release him for marksmanship training? Sheesh!
The parents may share some responsibility, but the kids are the ones who committed the act. They need to know that there are consequences for their actions.

That's part of the problem. The system molly coddles the kids and lets them go with little or no punishment over and over until they become offending adults. People naturally avoid unpleasant situations. If the system would put a boot in their ass from day one, I really believe there would be fewer juvenile delinquents turning into adult criminals.

I missed the details of this story but from the little I read here, Mike's take on the old Hank Williams song, "Mind Your Own Business" fits right in with most of my feelings.

I hear what you're saying and agree. But in this case, the kids are younger than the kids you worked with--at their age, it is Mom and Dad who should know what their kid is up to and specifically bringing to school. Those kids you worked with, I bet when they got home, Mom and Dad didn't know what their kid was up to, who they were hanging out with, what was going on with them, or some may not have cared, etc. Lack of supervision is a bad ingredient--that's all I'm saying. But do agree with your take on consequences.

Ok, I agree that PARENTS better wake up and start raising their kids. WTF does the damn government know about anything (look at the mess they're making of everything!).
When a child is SMALL (1 or 2) start "teaching" them what "NO" means. Don't put things up high - "teach" them "NO". (Ok so put the family heirlooms up high - it takes more than one 'no' to get the message across). If they mess with an electrial outlet - DO NOT put "safety locks" on them - teach them "NO" - if they stick their finger in it when you're not looking - they'll get the pee knocked out of them (usually one time 'teaches' them what "no" means!). I never child proofed my house (with son or grandson) and they're both still alive to tell the tale).
Parents MUST keep lines of communication open. Talk the kids - find out what's going on in their world. If they know they can tell you "anything" without you going balistic on them - they will and you'll be a lot better able to deal with it.
As far as the TV goes -- turn the damn thing off. Play with the kids - talk to them - do homework - talk to them - talk to them - Try being a family. I firmly believe a lot of this "rebellion" is a bid for attention.
Of course this is just my opinion .....

Not just your opinion, Barb. People want and need attention from someone. It's a hard-wired psychological need. Even small babies instinctively know that if they make enough noise, someone will come and look after them. If kids can't get the attention they need at home, they will get it elsewhere. Unfortunately, negative attention is better than none at all. So if acting out (or worse) is what it takes, that's what will happen.

It's true. Parents need to stay involved. When I was a teenager I knew this kid my age who was in and out of juvey, always getting into bigtime trouble. When he was home he ran wild all hours of the day and night--his parents took no control or had none, all I know is the kid did whatever he wanted anytime he wanted. BUT the kid had a good friend--and he told me many years later what would happen when he made plans to be up to no good with this friend. They'd both go to meet somewhere to skip school or go somewhere planning on doing something they shouldn't have been and what they would find is the friend's father sitting there waiting for them on his motorcycle. They both had no idea how the father knew what they were planning or how he knew where they had planned to meet. Sometimes the father wouldn't even confront them--let's say they had met somewhere in the woods--the father would ride his motorcycle up the path and just sit there a distance away from where they were staring straight ahead. It would freak the hell out of them and let's just say whatever plan to be up to no good they had that day didn't go down. This kid to this day thinks his friend's father was "psychic" and still marvels at it. I think the guy just cared about his kid.
