Makes me sick.

I looked at some of the other "news" stories this website has to offer.  They seem to take a singular event and try to make a big story about it or report with a "Chicken Little" style, one-sided slant.  Such as this article:

Senate Bill 1959 to Criminalize Thoughts, Blogs, Books and Free Speech Across America

http://www.naturalnews.com/022308.html

which portents the end of free speech in America and that merely writing a letter to your congressman or handing someone a Bible could have you up up on terrorism charges.  I'll pass on any impassioned reaction to anything these nuts have to say.

We experienced that about 15 yrs ago when on of our boys had a bicycle accident.  The Pediatrician we were using then tried to make it a child abuse case and asked all sorts of intrusive questions.  It has not improved.  Our current pediatrician refuses to be involved, and has warned us of a couple of others in the practice to be wary of.

At one point two out of three of my boys had broken wrists in skating and bicycling accidents within six weeks of each other.  One tripped at school and fell on his already casted wrist causing even more trauma.  I'm sure the doctors had more than a suspicion of abuse, but I wasn't at the scene when the injuries occurred  and there were always witnesses as to what had happened.

Here's my problem with this article:

Quote:
Graham and his wife found out only after their children came home from the visits.

What, did they put the kids on a bus and send them to the doctor with a note?

Why would a parent sends their kids, especially young kids, to the doctor alone?  I went into the exam room with my kids until they were 18.  I've seen my kids get pulled, poked, prodded, probed, catheterized and stitched up.  I let the doctor ask the kids questions and let the kids answer when they could, but I was there to provide more complete information or to make corrections to the information as needed.  Sometimes kids don't remember things or don't think some things may be important to the situation and neglect to tell the doc.  There are the inevitable family medical history questions that come up that a kid may not be able to answer.  I was also there to hear the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis and to ask questions about anything that the doctors didn't cover.

It's my kids' health we're talking about here.  Of course I'm going to be Johnny-on-the-Spot in making sure they get the best care possible.  That's my job as their father.

I'm with you Gator. My kid is almost 40 and I STILL am there - well, he doesn't get sick often and his wife doesn't know the family history etc. Smiley  Heck I go with his wife also (her parents never have and she asks me to).

Our little Caleb has ALWAYS had scratches, bumps and bruises (he's a hyper active kid and stays bunged up), but I DARE a damn doctor to say he's abused. In fact one day on a routine visit his peditrician told him (after looking at one of his wounds), "Boy if that had been a little deeper we'd have had to sew it up cause Granny's kiss wouldn't have cured that one!"

I know there's child abuse and I'm all for hanging anyone who commits it, but let's get some common sense back in the system and quit looking for things that don't exist. We've gotten to be a paranoid society - looking for things that don't exist.

And NO, I'm not gonna get on my soapbox...

Mom usually scheduled our appointments together. Of course for most of my childhood, the doctor came to the house.
