The Torturing Beast

It’s 2:00 a.m. and I’m awakened from a dream
Piercing pain in my left temple makes me want to scream
Half asleep I fumble for my current drug of choice
I’m in utter agony, the moaning apparent in my voice
The beast delights in tormenting me while I sleep
I want to shout profanities and am terrified to weep
I cannot sit, lie down, or even stand upright
This is not a battle I can win, yet I continue to fight
I press my thumb through the side of my head
Hoping to relieve the anguish of this daily dread
The malevolent monster plagues me with no remorse
It’s impossible to remove him with deadly force
I’ll do anything to end this unbearable suffering
I can’t seem to cope with this nefarious thing
Those who love me feel helpless and full of despair
Such excruciating pain seems so dreadfully unfair
Though they hurt and they cry to see me moan
I must ultimately endure this torment alone
The only reprieve is the monster will leave
When I can continue no longer I try to believe
Only those who have been afflicted can ever relate
We suffer in silence sparing others from our fate
Thank God this vile torture will come to an end
Then life will once again become my best friend

awesome poem...............on my fridge.........doesnt this beast know WE DO NOT LIKE TO DANCE ALOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!!! i mean, yrs ago when married and young, the middle of the night thing was fun, ya know!!! last night the beast had the nerve to wake me @ 3, 5, & 7  , ..................and my 22 yr old SAYS IT'S IN MY HEAD!!!!  DAMN ------- STRAIGHT IT IS!!!! and i need to function 2 day, guess the strong coffee and pred by 10am will assist me in y daily speed ritual!!!!

Glad you enjoyed my poem and I thank you for your kind words. I'm sorry that YOU (my fellow sufferers) understand my agony all too well. My ch are peaking now causing me ultimate misery. I can't tell if it is just one ch, which is not responding to any of my meds or several that just keep rolling into one another, but I've had two real head bangers the past two days.
The first one started on Mon. around 12:30 p.m. going from a 10+ down to maybe a 6 after several hours and then finally dissipating after a grand total of 10 hours. Thank God I was able to sleep through the night before being awakened again with another ch at 7:00 a.m. This one kept switching from a 10 to a 7 and back again for about 7 hours before abating completely.
The craziest part for me is that all the meds that usually provide some sort of relieve before the ch get this bad, seem to have little to no effect now. I used Imitrex, Oxycodone, Indocin, and even tried a RedBull closer to the end of my attack today, which made me feel really bizarre, but maybe helped some with the residual headache.
Anyway, thanks for reading my drug induced ramblings and know that I truly appreciate your kindness and support.
