Trigeminal nerve pain

First, I am NOT in cycle, thank the Lord. I started to develop a typical head cold a couple of days ago, not unusual for me at this time of year. My typical colds start with a really runny nose, that dries up and clogs my sinuses in a day or two, then migrates down to a chest cold with cough, and is gone in a week or two. So, I've been sneezing for a couple of days, wolfing down the vitamin C, all the good stuff we're supposed to take. Yesterday, the nose is running like a faucet - typical - not unusual. It's a work day, so I did what I have done many times before with great success, take two DayQuil, which has always helped dry up the drip, and send the cold to my sinuses, where it will migrate out, as usual. Well, yesterday, the DayQuil worked way too well. My sinuses became completely impacted, causing pressure all across my sinuses (cheekbones, forehead - both sides). Here's the rub. Today, my sinuses don't seem as impacted, but I now have real pain shooting throughout the trigeminal nerve system, but only on my cluster side??? I have no eye pain, definitely not a cluster hit, yet I would rate the nerve pain at a K3 level. Also, my upper back molar, again on the cluster side, is just killing me. Question, could the really full sinus congestion of yesterday caused the nerve in the molar to become inflamed, which in turn caused the whole trigeminal system to become inflamed? Question #2. Do you think that if I took a buster dose of rc seeds, and suck on my 02, like I would do if this was a CH hit, might it help? Anyone else ever had an experience like this? All input (our output) is welcome. Thanks Sandy

yes the cold can definitely contribute to out of cycle nerve pain. an infected toothe can produce similar pain. I do not know about busting

| Yes this can happen. It has happened to my husband out of cycle. Congestion/pressure/inflammation in the sinus can impact on the trigeminal nerve directly ie via direct physical impact. Regarding busting, I dont know but my guess is no. From what I understand, busting works on the neurotransmitters such as serotonin and maybe even the hypothalamus, I dont think it would have any effect on the direct pressure/inflammation in the sinus. However, this is purely an educated guess only.

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

| Sounds right. I would treat the sinuses first. As long as they are inflamed, there could be problems. When my sinuses are really swollen, there is lots of localized pain - not a cluster, but not fun. I have found that a decongestant spray followed a half hour later by a saline rinse (not a measly spray, but several ounces poured through one nostril and out the other) is the best for this.

Funny, I had the same issues about a month ago and it only effected my cluster side. My CH cycle started about 5 days ago and the sinus congestion is now back. It seems like I always get a bad sinus infection a few weeks before a cycle hits.

My CH side is very sensitive to cold/flu pain, also heavy exertion (lifting weights, running, etc) and extreme temperatures. Doesn't usually last long, except when it's right before or after a cycle.
