Just had to take my 22 year old cat to be put to sleep. Never thought it would tear me apart like it has.

Oh Michael, I'm sorry. I still can't forget my dog Wilf. I had to have him put down on Jan 13th 1990 and it still breaks my heart now. Can't think of him without missing him dreadfully. Pets are such a part of us. We all understand, theres a lot of pet lovers here too Helen x

I'm so sorry for your loss, Michael. I've been there recently myself. Here's a link to a little poem which helped me deal with having to put my dog to rest last year. http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/lastbatt.htm Warm wishes, -Patti

So very sorry Micheal, it is one of the toughest things to do. We have had to do this to four of our cats and it seems to get harder each time. From one pet lover to another. Barry

We put our dog to sleep a year ago next week. I've been thinking about her alot lately. Patti's poem brought tears to my eyes all over again. It is very special and true.Pets are soo very special, no one really can prepare you for the emptiness and loss. Time and memories will help ease the pain, hopefully. Charlotte

Hi Michael, The true cost of loving and being loved by a pet isn't truly felt until we have to say goodbye. They love us no matter what. In the end we have to do what is right for them. ((((HUGS)))) -Dennis-

I'm so sorry Michael. Our pets are the world to us - they really are. I read that poem, and it brought tears to my eyes, but it is so true. It is horrible that we have to make the decision at the end of life for our pets, but they count on us to be strong and to end their suffering. Your cat is at peace and in a better place now - I'm sure chasing all the mice that kitty could ask for up in Heaven! Hang in there... My dog is nearing the end, and it is so hard to think about doing what you have just had to do - you are very strong for making that decision for your cat. Much love, Carrie

I am sorry for your loss. Putting down a pet, in my opinion, is one of hardest things in life. At the same time also one of the most compassionate. My 18 year old cat was put down two years ago (and my golden retriever was recently diagnosed with cancer, so I am preparing myself) and while nothing makes it better, I found that reminding myself that completely out of love you you're willing to subject yourself to suffering to save your cat from suffering helped a bit. The ultimate form of altruism. Also never forget the reason it is so hard...all the love, happiness, fun etc. Again I am sorry for the loss!
