Politics in Action in Texas

It was a "different" day in Texas. A little 14 year old explained the Texas Two Step voting on TV yesterday morning - how you can vote TWICE. Well, it sounded like a good idea to me....

So I went a voted about noon at the polls and then at 7:15 (they said the time was important) I was at the caucas to vote AGAIN. But that didn't work out too well cause the polls didn't close until after 8 and we had to stand out in the cold until after the polls closed and then some.

Finally they let us in and it was amazing - there were almost 150 people in town at 8:30 p.m. in LINDEN TX (there's not that many on Sunday morning for church). It was an interesting process. We had to "register" again and put out vote on paper - also tell if we were handicapped, gay, what color we were, and something else about as stupid.  Then the Hilliary people were lined up on one side of the room and the Obamba people on the other and everyone was counted.

Then some math was done and they determined how many delegates we were going to get for the county convention (and yes I'm a delegate for that one).

Didn't get home until about 10:30, but it was an interesting process. Never did figure out who won in the local races - we didn't get to vote twice on them - just the presidential race.

But the one thing I did notice was that no one got angry about anything. We were laughing about the TV commericals, but until we went to opposite sides of the room no one really knew who was pulling for who and even after that we were still laughing and joking with each other. No one was trying to change anyone's mind about anything. First time I've been in a political situation where someone didn't get mad.

I'm still not sure how the caucas votes figure in to the overall picture, but I voted twice and I guess the TV announcers will explain it all to me in the next 24 hours or so. Anyhow that was the social event of the month here in the country...... Smiley

Thanks for your explanation. I was reading about the caucus and trying to understand it. Sometimes a layman does a more simple job! that's easier to understand.
