Ah! The foreigners put on such airs
Wearing the tangerine suits
And their harlequin eyes.
The pain they inspire
Draws in harmonica melodies
And the feathers of birds
Which flame up at their touch.
It all comes to light in the sheer
Debonair.

A testament to how men handle long hair, facial hair, sideburns, and upscale dress to think it all said "I have style".

It took creating different directions of far less acceptance to get away from the look, after a taste of following the crowd and then to rebel against the image... crashed upon the rocks of "don't know, don't care".

On another note, to personally divulge comment on the era, there was a change in the fall of '72.

As the election neared, Nixon was elected in November, my draft lottery number came up as "ticket to Viet Nam" in December, the end of January "State of the Union" speech that ended the draft, my 18th birthday within 30 days after that speech, which I was to report for duty, I believe a designation of 1h on my draft card.
Admittedly, I stayed "completely out of it" during those four months, but there was a change in the air also, the passing of a creative and exciting era.
I disliked handing over all that had happened to the developing new times, complying with the direction of change briefly, following into an unknown, but onward to careers and a social life searching for alternatives, exploring the world.
Some parts of the mid-70's were divided, murky, but still very wild.  Even going back again now, I still don't think I'd get it right with so many options and interests but in a difficult economy up to the early eighties, distractions were perhaps important.
We went many different directions, looking back now, still difficult to get a grasp on what was actually happening being so young.

Zounds.

Hilarious photos kids. Thanks for the link.

It took me 10 years to dump my moustache. It was Burt Reynolds lite. Fortunately, almost all my images are on transparancies so I can't scan them here... Cool

I never had a leisure suit but I coud have had made two or three new shirts out of my old shirt collars. Those polyester suits seemed bulky to me.

If you remember the 70's you really didn't "enjoy" them. smokin

No leisure suit here, but I did have a polyester sport jacket that was baby blue with dark blue piping. I was the shiznit my friends, and I got pictures to prove it. Too bad I don't have a scanner or I would blow your minds with my coolness. Stove pipe pants, platform shoes, even had a mullet once. (my girlfriend talked me into cutting my long hair. My friends called me Ace Freely for a month) I even had a firebird. Ughhh, I would go back in a heartbeat.

When I looked at those pics, I saw same kind of glasses my mom used to wear (and I have pics to prove it  Wink) and one of the young ladies in those pics could be my godmother's deadringer!

Those are so funny and really hit too close to home! My worst fashion memory was my wedding!! Of course I was beautiful, my bridesmaids were beautiful too all dressed in powder blue, matching the groomsmen! My husband , ring bearer, groosmen and my Dad all wore powder blue tuxes!!! I still haven't been forgiven! It seemed ok at the time but now I can't beleive we did that!!! We were very color coordinated though, even with the flowers. I wish Erik had spoken up and said what the hell are you doing!!!???

No, not blackmail.  I have to take a digital pic, upload on the easy share, move it to photo bucket, then post it here, and I am just too retarded to do that right now.

Okay....leisure suit jacket, rolled the loud print polyester shirt at the collar and the sleeves, notice the patent white shoes....1976 Christmas dance...when the Bee Gees and the Moody Blues ruled the world. The theme for the night was 'Knights in White Satin"...breathe deep...the gathering gloom...watch lights fade from every room....sigh........incredible memories....
