Note from my Marine

Got a short letter from Rob, and wanted to share a little of it. He said, "I got to go to Fallujah the other day. No matter what they say (the media), they don't mind us being here. Even going through Fallujah, the kids come to the road and wave at our convoy. Nothing is happening here. The Iraqis have taken control of so much that it's rather quiet. Almost everywhere you go, you see the Iraqi Police flying around. If you don't see them, you see their Army. Since there's nothing going on I lost my job. (Tactical Air Control - they aren't needed) I got put in the C.O.C. (Combat Ops. Center), monitoring radios. That is horrible. I want to go out. Sometimes, I feel almost like I don't even deserve the name "Marine". So many have gone before and done so much more, while I'm stuck sitting on my butt. Maybe I'm foolish, but what will I tell my kids? "I was in Iraq, but it was so bad I don't want to talk about it...?" Despite all I've said, I don't regret coming. I've had a part, no matter how small, in helping keep a country free." I'm so doggone proud I could bust! Thanks to all of you who pray for him, and for all of the other guys and gals who are laying it on the line over there and in Afghanistan. I know letters and cards are appreciated a lot by our kids over there. They get awfully lonely, not to mention bored living in the conditions they have to live in. I hope he doesn't mind my sharing this note with you, but thought that my other family would be interested. Jerry

You tell him from me that by monitoring those radios he could be the one that saves a life. It might seem boring or "safe" or watever but it's essential and it's those other soldiers peace of mind. Knowing there is someone who has their back and can send help. That sort of reassurance is priceless. Sounds like a pretty terrific lad to me Jerry. It sure is your day for rightl being proud of your sons. They obviously have one heck of a set of parents to raise such morally concientious decent fine young men. Who say's the future isn't bright. With much love to you all Helen

Thanks Jerry for sharing it. It is good to know that things are not so rough for him out there, it may seem boring for him but He is doing his job and you can go to sleep with some peace knowing He is not in inmediate danger. My stepson was one of the first guys to step into Fallujah and back then it was not a playground. We could not sleep at night and neither he did. We will keep praying for your son to come back home son and safe. Hugs Rosy.

Thanks for sharing Jerry. My Marine has been newly stationed at an air base near Dallas and is bitting at the bit to do his part over seas. It bums him out that the C130's he works on do not even go to Iran.

I'm sure that He'd appreciate it Jerry. He's another example of how great our kids are. I've yet to meet one that I didn't like. They are the good guys. Charlie

Last Sunday night we were having a heated discussion about Iraq amongst several people. My Dad, who is a retired 28yr career officer and West Point graduate sat listening quietly. I commented on how quiet he was. He finally spoke up and said how tired he was about the negative comments about the military and how the media doesn't portray it correctly. It's always been a complaint and something he has learned to live with. Anyways, I have forwarded your post to him. I know he will appreciate hearing this straight formt he mouth of someone actually there. Charlotte

Thanks Jerry for sharing this! Its not common for us to be able to hear it directly from the people who are there doing the real work. The media always twist things to make it sound catastrophic so it will sell. Please thank your son for us here too. By keeping peace and order there he is helping keeping peace and order the world over.
