I was feeling fine this afternoon and so I decided to play some games on T.V. The intensity of the play brought on a headache. This has happened three times so far in this cluster episode. There is something to be said about trying to stay relaxed. Also my midnight to 4 am "awaken from sleep headaches" are preceded by intense dreaming. Does anyone else notice that as well?

I only have had a bad headache following a losing round on a boxing game.

It never happened when I played super mario brothers Wink

The only thing I could think of is the rush from playing brings you high and when you come down you get hammered with an attack.

That would not be toom uch different then those of us who get wholloped following an intese work day or other stressful events.

Good luck and try playing cribbage instead

I do know one clusterhead for whom TV itself is a trigger.

callico once told me that during an attack he plays a very simple computer game on the pc. same game every time. maybe because the game he plays is so easy it calms him and distracts him from the intense pain. could be your case that the game you're playing is stimulating your brain and getting your hart jumping a little bit. as for me i've never known tv by itself to be a trigger but if i am starting to climb it can accelerate an attack. hope that helps man.

My 2 cents:

Flickering lights, strobe lights, and brightly backlit people and things are a trigger for me.  Perhaps that might have had something to do with it...

Wishing you well,

When my husband was in cycle, he couldnt focus for long on any bright flickering screen, be it a computer or a TV screen, it would trigger a hit for him.

When I am having a "bad head" I cant bear any sort of light. I play the playstation in between cycles and it has never started one. As for the dreams I thought it was just me, I get vivid nightmares (real wake ya up screaming ones) 3 to 4 days before the beast arrives.

I couldn't play video games last time I was in cycle.  I thought it was the intensity of playing that triggered me, but it may have been the lights?  Who knows?  But I can confirm that.

I don't play video games myself, so I cannot comment on that one.

But I have noticed that just staring at the computer screen at work and trying to find the information my clients need did cause shadowing during my first weeks. The program we use back at work it filled with small texts and details everywhere, there's some pressure and I'm very concentraded, so it wasn't that huge surprise to get shadows.

And I have noticed that sometimes when I'm in cycle, those flickering lights on TV can cause me head to react, so I do my best to avoid them when the beast is around. And sometimes the bright Finnish winter sun can cause shadowing, so I try to avoid staring at the direct sunlight.

Never play video games but my first hit came in 1969 while watching Johnny Carson. Not much in common there and TV was never a trigger.

Every time I got a hit, I headed for a dark and cool place, hopefully away from anyone that asked me anything until over. My two nighttime hits were like clockwork but I don't remember anything significant about intense dreams. So far as I know, I had no triggers.  It would be nice for you though if quitting video games would be an answer. Good luck!

I like the answer that my blood preasure is probably elevated during play, as for the dreams... I'm not sure if the headache that is coming on in my sleep is causing the dreams or the dreams are causing the headache that I will get as soon as I wake. (I'm thinking the latter)Are headaches while sleeping a commonality with all clusterheads?

You say that you have had CH for 35 years and you have to ask that question?

Dreams and CH hits both happen while sleeping.  And sometimes they can happen together at that stage of sleep.

CH hits most commonly during REM sleep and vivid dreams happen most commonly during REM sleep also. Just the nature of the condition.

Ditto on the REM sleep thing.  Ninety percent or more of my hits occur during REM sleep.

Ixnay on the computer screens--they won't trigger a hit, but looking at one during a hit would make my head explode.  I can't even conceive of doing so.

I have very intense vivid dreams anytime I sleep. When I wake up, it is like a movie just played in my head and some of the images are just too real. The problem is... all of my dreams are nightmares!
Not a typical CHead though. I have other things going that have never been addressed until now. I recently was diagnosed with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) from various things I'll not go into. They have put me on a drug that worked in 2 different blind studies on war veterans who suffered with severe nightmares. It is called Prazosin, and it is most typically used nowadays for children who have sustained trauma or abused and have night terrors.

As far as the gaming goes, getting into something really intense can bring on a CH; especially if you're clenching your jaws, getting hyped up, etc.

I don't do gaming. I'd rather be chatting with friends and meeting new people, or writing or playing music. Personally, if I mastered World of Warcraft. and spent alll those hours to get there.... I'd rather create something, and utilize what time I have on being productive.

Question is, do you get CH's from staring at the computer too long?
