DONATING YOUR HAIR...

I was in the supermarket with Crystal when a couple approached us about possibly considering donating our hair for cancer patient wigs (when we decided to cut it). Has anyone here done that? That would definitely be a good cause I should think. The lady wanted to touch our hair. Of course, I looked windblown from the wind outside. I was weirded out, but I let her. She said my hair was gorgeous, wavy, thick. She said something about Crystal's hair being perfect to make wigs like the wigs they make out of horse hair - Crystal looked at me like "oh, no she didn't just say that". I couldn't help it and laughed. Anyway, she gave me her number. She said if we ever considered it, to give her a call. I don't know if SHE does the wigs herself, but she said she can come and cut it herself (she's a hairstylist) and she can send it to certain organizations that need it. I might just do it, when I'm ready that is. If Jonny does it, i'll do it. LMAO! Langa

Someone that just came up to you out of the clear blue sky, touched your daughters hair and made comments like that I would be VERY uncomfortable with. If you decide to do it stick with a reputable org. like the one posted here. I say she was out of line.

mooshie did it. We never cut her hair until she was about 8. By then, there was a nice ponytail that was donated to locks of love. I'm with Linda, though. If you do it, do so through the website. Sometimes they have special events. Like a free style at a salon for the donation.

Meg did it too...2 years ago. Her hair is so thick they had to take it in 4 bunches. If you want to do a wonderful thing, I say go for it. Besides Sis, you look awsome in short hair.

Actually, a neighbor who Lily babysits for is a beautician and will give Lily a haircut for free at her house and then will be donating it. Lily has 12 inches she's going to give away. I'll be doing it too as soon as mines long enough, I have about 2 more inches to grow. Totally cool Langa!

Mel, aren't you supposed to be off somewhere having a baby???? sheeesh, just how long do you expect us to be patient?? Locks of love is a wonderful thing. When I lopped mine off last year, I was just shy of 9", not quite there. You also may want to check with your local salons and see if they participate, cuz some woman pawing at you seems a bit odd.

Thanks for the link to lock of love...never heard of them. As I said, I felt weirded out with the woman touching my hair. She mentioned the hair would be for cancer patients who've lost their hair on chemo. I'll look further into it on other sites. I'll definitely do it when the time comes. Jonny, I had no idea you cut your long hair. It actually looks cool at neck length though. Langa

Lisa did Locks For Loves when she was in High School. The salon had all of the paper work and she got a nice thank you. What has made it even more special was a few years ago in my preschool class, I had a 3 yr old girl with no hair. She always wore cute hats. Well she is now my 1st grade student and Leah came back in Sept. with a full head of hair, courtesy of Locks for Love. Her pride and smile were wonderful. I have another 5th grade student also with a wig from Locks For Love. Both girls have alopecia. It's such a nice thing to do if you are planning to do a big haircut! Charlotte

Ellen's donated to Locks of Love--twice, I think. She likes her hair long sometimes, but then she gets sick of messing around with it and--whacko. Usually when it's short, it suffers purple stripes, or green bangs, or something. But hey--it's her hair. I like that she donates her hair--but it's always been entirely her idea, and I can take no credit for suggesting it. Great program. Best, George

Nice thing to do for cancer patients!! Hey Jonny, what made you cut it off? I cut mine because I was getting tired of the 4 washes a day & still not getting all the metal dust out. Funny....so I go to a place & tell the girl to cut it off some...maybe do something different with it. So what did I get??? yup...she turned me around in the chair & much to my dismay...I had a MULLET !!!!! Thats right, she gave me a Billy Ray Cyrus silly looking mullet !!!! I couldnt get mad at her cause I did tell her to do something she liked. So I went straight home & chopped it all off. Wore it hi & tight for 5 years. Now I am trying to grow it back and it looks ridiculous. I have to wear a doo rag. I don't even know what I'm gonna do with it. May just chop it back off the way it was a few months ago. One good thing is, I found out that I had less gray hair than before. Dont know why, but welcome it. Dave
