DOCTORS - when will they listen

I went to my doctor yesterday and told him about this site, and also that my heads had gone into remission. I told him about the water, coffee and taurine treatment, so what did he say, "that can't be right because coffee causes headaches with migraine and this is a migraine related condition, so it must have been the adalat tablets that did it". Okay, they may have done it, but I beleive that the water, coffee and energy drinks had a helping hand also, cause it was when I started taking them that the CH's stopped. Anyway, I asked him for a non rebreather mask to go with my oxygen bottles, and he told me, 'we won't try any fancy measures until they are needed'. In other words I can't have one until the headaches come back. I just wish he would look on the site and see what other people know for a fact . I think he thought I was trying to tell him his job, far from it. Anyway rant over.

Hello Jacquibim: I second the notion that it is probably time to find a doctor who will listen and consider what you have to say. The calcium channel blocker may well have been effective, but the caffeine and energy drinks may have as well. You can obtain your own "non-rebreather" O2 mask, and perhaps someone in your country can provide a source. There have been various posts here where superior parts can be obtained on-line and assembled into one. Hopefully someone will post the link here for you. Wishing you well, Ray

| What Ray said. As long as the regulator you have will go high enough (up to or over 15 lpm), you can get your own mask. See Batch's post on the "Helpful Hints" thread at the top of the Cluster Headache Specific board for more information on what you ought to look for, with photos. Best wishes, George

I don't even have a doctor/neuro any more. I go to a nurse practitioner at Kaiser, who listens to what I bring from the board, gets a neuro to sign off on it, and lets me run with it. A doctor who won't listen is either insecure or stupid or both. No one can possibly know everythng about everything...I'll accept that. But if he won't be open minded I am afraid you are setting yourself up for a lot of painful days while "He" decides what you should do. Good luck. Guiseppi

To answer your question.............when you find a good Dr. Call around and ask questions. Find out how many patients they have had with clusterheadaches and if they are familiar with the latest treatments including 02. If any Dr. is dismisive of you and your questions/ concerns about your treatment of ch, I only have two words I would recommend "You're Fired." Good Luck to you. Beth

thanks to you all for your comments, I have long been looking for a new Doctor, but over here it is not very easy, it is quite hard to get onto their 'books', but I shall keep looking. Also I shall, next time I go to see him, ask to see a neurologist. Jacqui

Helen aka LeLimey has been sick or I'm sure she would be able to point you in the right direction. Try alking to Mummymac or Dape and see who their neuros are. Carolyn

Nope they rarely listen to us. I was lucky because I had so much experience with neurologists because of my epilepsy. Mine had info on it in the 1970s. Why do we have to go through such nonsense convincing these quacks that migraines have nothing to do with this horror? Find another and you should be able to get help from us here. Good luck, Charlie

Simply tell him that he is only "practicing", and that he is not yet God. The wonders of socialized medicine making it hard to get into a different Dr. Not that things are always a whole lot better over here. Jerry
