Jaguar escaped yesterday

about 15 minutes up the road from us. This man has an exotic animal santuary.

Well the Jaguar escaped yesterday and the news was telling us this animal is extremely dangerous.

The Jaguar came back to the santuary in the afternoon and attacked the family dog which was tied up with no way to escape. Police had to shoot the Jaguar and the family dog. There was no hope for the dog.

The OSPCA will be going in today to investigate. This man has Lions, Tigers, Panthers and many more exotic animals and this is not the first time this has happened.

I love animals and I feel this is wrong. I hope our town does something about this before a human gets killed.

WOW!!  That is scary.  Our crazy azz neighbors had a cougar that they had taken away for them a few years back.  They called it their "kitty" and said they found it in the woods...bullshit!!

I've only had to call the dept of agriculture on them about 6 times for various reasons from starving and injured cattle to not keeping their buffalo fenced properly.  Kinda freaks you out when you open your garage door and there is a herd of buffalo standing in your driveway!  BTW, slamming garage door causes buffalo to start stampeding around the house!

This one really bites! These exotic animals do not belong in this climate nor do they need to be able to "get out" and become "lost' or just plane confused. Either way, I feel so bad for the loss of this majestic animal.

I hope this guy gets shut down!! I will do my part!!!!! thumb

Since it is a sanctuary, I am assuming it's for protection of these animals?  Also, how did it escape?

Yes it is a Sanctuary but privately run. The Jaguar jumped the chain link fence. The grounds are not secure enough for these animals obviously. This is not the first time this has happened. Lion escaped once before.

The owner's heart is in the right place. Mistakes happen.

I am very sad over this.

Somehow the first mental picture that came to my mind reading the title of this thread was a brand spanking new Jaguar XF jumping the handbrake and rolling down the street !  Tongue

Edited to add : I need to get back to nature, been living in the city for far too long !

If the man cannot GUARANTEE absolutely that ALL animals are secured and CANNOT POSSIBLY get out...he should be shut down.

I'm not big on laws & Govt. interference, but the danger to humans is just too great...fact because it got out.

What if it ate your kids head !?!?!? If it did, I'd make the owner pay eye for an eye, not the animal. If it did happen, all the animals should be released into their own natural habitat.

A lot of people have vicious dogs. Even though Rotweillers and pits don't attack any more than other dogs ( I have been told) they seem to do a lot of damage to people when they do attack.

There are a lot of irresponsible dog owners out there.

Glad to hear no one was hurt.

Cheers, Dave

Mine escaped yesterday too.  Had to go to the shop cause i accidentally busted the shifter assembly.
Got her back today, though.  Purring like a kitten.

Here is the link to the local newspaper that reported the story on the Jaguar. Apparently he broke through the fence not over it.

What a bizarre incident, Barry & Angie--glad everything turned out relatively okay.  It could have been worse.

Remember the weird reference to "ligers" in the movie "Napoleon Dynamite"--when Napoleon drew a picture of a liger for his "girlfriend" and told her that ligers were his favorite animal?

It was probably underappreciated by most, but the Idahodians who saw it knew it referred to an incident that occurred in southeast Idaho back in 1995, when a dozen or so lions and ligers (a cross between a lion and a tiger) escaped from a ramshackle "game farm" between Lava Hot Springs and Soda Springs, not too far from Preston, Idaho--the location of "Napoleon Dynamite".  After a frantic, ad hoc safari in the mountains down in the Portneuf River country by a number of law enforcement officers and hundreds of vigilantes, the ligers were finally brought to bay.  The whole fiasco became quite the legend around there.

Unfortunately, I can't offer any insight into the deeper significance of Tina the Llama.

Anyhow, glad it's over--I hope they shut the stupid "preserve" down now.  I'll never understand the goofballs who do stuff like that.

All the best,

George
