So my lovely 2001 Honda Accorde sputtered on my way up to CT. this morning. It takes forever to get a tow and I am waiting here in WhitePlains NY @ a Honda service center. Which is far from the luxury that they have on LI. What a pain in the a$$ !! thank g-d this place has wi-fi. Maybe this will be the occasion for the job to by me a car. If they want me to do the job..... E

Your employer should, at the very least, be paying you mileage (which should, in turn, be used for maintaining your buggy). One way or the other, it sounds like you might want to either a) get them to buy you a company car, or b) put a crowbar in your wallet and buy one yourself.

| they pay a nice % of expenses. I write off my mileage. We were hoping to get at least 1 yr without car payments since both our cars are finally paid off. That would be an extra 11k for the year and now that I have to pay a lot more for family plan insurance it would be too much. Hopefully they'll hook me up with something

This has to be a mistake. Hondas don't break down. Just ask anyone. Seriously.......once you get back to your regular service shop they may find it's an inexpensive fix. Bill

yeah it was frigid! So get this... I decide to go with my gut and tell them to just do my oil as it is burning like crazy and that should get me home safely. I bring it to my dealership.... they do a full diagnostic for free and tell me..... The other guys were full of shit. I nearly got f#$ed without even a reacharound.... I don't need anything the other place said but because I am going through oil so fast that the only way to really keep it running well is to change every 500 -750miles. That should keep it going ok. UGH!!! I need to squeeze as much out of this.

Honda and Nissan make great cars. My current car is a 1995 Nissan Pulsar, bought it new and driven it since without it ever broken down. It has now done 176000 kms and still going strong.

Yo E! Sorry you're having car troubles. My wife had a 2000 Honda Accord. Sweet ride. We put almost 60k miles on it in the first couple years and never had a bit of trouble out of it. You really shouldn't be "going through" oil like that if there's nothing wrong with your car. The oil has to be going somewhere. Either it's burning it, in which case there may be bad rings, head gasket or valves, or it's leaking, in which case you may have any of a number of bad gaskets or seals. If your oil gets really "dirty" very quickly, it could be because of bad rings allowing exhaust gases to blow by the rings into the crankcase. If it's burning it, you'll probably notice smoke, especially at higher rpm's. This could mean bad rings or a bad head gasket. Sometimes, you can tell if it's the valves, because it will smoke when you first start the engine, but then stop after a few minutes. This is because a valve seal and/or valve guide has worn and oil is puddling on top of the valve and dumps into the cylinder all at once when you first start the car. If it's leaking, you would usually be seeing oil spots on the driveway, but not always. Sometimes, when a seal is failing (but not yet gone), the oil won't leak until it the oil pressure gets high enough, like when you are driving. If this is the case, you should be able to look underneath and see where it is blowing back against the undercarriage as you drive. These are a few things that immediately come to mind. Having to change your oil every 500 miles sounds like a problem to me, especially on a car like a Honda Accord that is put together so tightly. Good luck with it, my brother.
