i dont know if these are what is ment by shadows, because i dont see any shadows, but im 2 days off the preds now and it feels like im going to get a cluster at times of the day, but not, it kinda hurts even, it last about 2-10 mintues 5- 10 times a day the last couple of days. right behind my left eye, same side i get my attacks. but nothing has came in the form of a true attack yet. is this a shadow?? does mean there coming back? or going away? or am i coming out of my cycle? any advice would be helpful. thanks bill

Sounds like shadows. As for the rest only the shadow knows. I forget. Are you taking a preventative.

LMAO....Bill, shadows dont mean you see shadows.....its just a low level pain, like a shadow of a cluster headache.

I liken a shadow to a feeling of dread caused by a low level pain. It gives the feeling that there is more to come, that the beast is lurking right around the corner to pounce on you. Kind of like seeing the school bully's shadow on the sidewalk when he is hiding behind a tree waiting to take your lunch money away from you. Poor analogy I know, but the best I can do. Shadows for me can last just a few minutes like you mentioned, or for half and hour to a couple of hours. Sometimes they develope into a full blown attack, but often they don't. When I was episodic they tended to be more common at the beginning and at the ending of a cycle. Jerry

Even though I haven't had a full blown hit for nearly 17 years, a couple of times I year, I get a hell of sharp pain right were my friend lies dormant, scared to death of what I decide call a healthy diet, but it lasts for less than a minute. Poor bashtard knows better than to screw with my cooking. Glad you've sorta got him on the run too. Charlie

If you tell your doc you're getting shadows and he orders a straight jacket, it's time to fire your doc. Seriously, if he can't figure out what you're talking about, he's into an area that isn't his specialty.

Bill, the topamax is probably holding the "hits" at bay, but the shadows show up -- just drink a red bull when they appear or gulp some O2. That should help them. And we're not making fun of you kiddo -- we've probably all asked the "same" questions a couple of times in the past also... we just like ribbin' the new kid on the block -- that's what us old "bullies" do for fun on Fridays. Hope the PF days last forever...... Hugs BD

thanks guys, and i can take it i guess, my doc is kinda still in the stone age about this but he is learning quick. no changes on the topamax 100mg a day till ??. i told him about this web site (sorry guys) and the shadows. and he said he understood. i made 3 things very clear 1 prednazone was the drug that stopped that maddness, 2 oxygen worked 50/50 for me but i wasnt using the right mask then, #3 most important the only thing that stops a full 9 or 10 kip (for me) is imitrex. and he assured me his pen could easy write me perscriptions for all 3. so i feel better, and not as many shadows today eithier. but was still some. coach bill.

Keep on educating your doc.... at least he's willing to learn -- you're lucky there. And the good thing about Clusterville -- you know you're not alone here -- someone always around to lend an ear or kick your rear - whichever you need at the time... Hugs BD
