Why Clusterville is better than the UN

We are everywhere. We eat crumpets and drink southern sweet tea. We live on alpine mountains and swim in tropical waters. We know (ok, we pretend to know) what a wanker is. We serve lutefish (sp?) and are awestruck at aurora borealis. We know what pierogi are and how to make jambalaya. We worship differently and respect greatly those differences We cry when our countrymen around the world suffer. We are southerners, northerners, midwest, and coast, island, mountain, country and city. We laugh at our differences. We rejoice in our similarities. We fight over ridiculous things, but stand shoulder to shoulder when it truly matters. And thru it all, no matter what the circumstance or battle or personal opinion or location, we always remain the same.... brothers and sisters. I love this place.

I love the 'net, and CH.com (by extension). After a gazillion years, we're at last able to "meet" and talk with average people who share things in common with us in places all over the world. I think that's remarkable. Imagine being able to argue with someone over something inconsequential when they are half a world away. Used to be, you had to hunt down someone in your own living room in order to do that. It's a lot harder to generate xenophobia against individuals that you know, than against an amorphous group of unknown people who've been shoehorned into some "national" identity. I'd imagine that certain governments just hate that. I think that we're just beginning to see the effects of this new ability to meet and communicate with others. What will eventually come of it in a generation or two, I don't know--but I suspect that it will change things in profound ways, unless it becomes utterly trivial. We don't need no steenkin' delegates. Best, George

Ah! The foreigners put on such airs Wearing the tangerine suits And their harlequin eyes. The pain they inspire Draws in harmonica melodies And the feathers of birds Which flame up at their touch. It all comes to light in the sheer Debonair. (Ellen)

The UN can kiss my ass. They have tried to pressure Nations to adopt THEIR ideals and proposed laws. I may be our biggest critic, but I'm our biggest supporter when the SHTF. I love it here, regardless of our problems and shortcomings...or I would simply leave
