degrassi, my daughter is watching this show and we only have one tv so here i sit making comments. has anybody seen this show? anybody ever seen that mad tv sketch called pretty white kids with problems? thats what this show reminds me of. a bunch of extremely white bread kids with their pantywaste problems.  here this one kid stole his dads credit card trashed a motel room, when on a shopping spree and then when his dad confronted him about it he beat up his dad. and the theme is like we should feel sorry  for this silly ass kid. can you imagine pulling some shit like that when we were kids.  my dad is pushing 70 and i still don't think i could kick his ass.  when i was this age i had to hustle a job, go to school, keep my car running and take care of things around the house since my dad was out on the road. and never got emotional. these kids get upset if they can't get the right ringtone on there little pink cell phones.   i don't know this show just blows my mind. maybe at 31 years old i am getting out of touch but i am sticking to my guns. these kids are idiots.

So it's about furthering their attractive personalities I see.   Roll Eyes

I suppose filling out an application to McDonalds, getting hired, and taking a bus to get there wasn't an idea in any of the episodes, or maybe using a library card.  "Dude, get a life, you're out of the loop and off my speed dial."

I've never seen it, never even heard of it. But thanks for the heads-up. If I ever come across it, I'll know not to waste my time (which applies to about 98% of what's offered these days).

I used to watch degrassi all the time with my daughter.  Don't know about that particular episode, but Degrassi has dealt with some pretty heavy hitting problems with teenagers and done an excellent job.

Btw, Degrassi is a Canadian program (and usually most excellent).

My daughters used to watch the show.  I've seen a few episodes and would always refer to it as a teenage soap opera.

P.S. You can use some of the issues dealt with on the show to start a conversation/debate.

It seems a step away from drugs but not an attractive one.

TV popularity as examples influence sometimes, kids can be very socially inclined but life can be very different from problem to resolution in 30 minutes as sometimes depicted.  Many lifestyles become mired in short-term oriented, day-to-day matters at a time in life that may sometimes inhibit discoveries of interest that can be important too when looking outside themselves and an encompassing surrounding to give balance to their presently essential social life.

alot of good points made on this thread. maybe it does help kids deal with there problems. there problems seem so pompous though. every kid even the nerdy ones are good looking. no one had uncontrollable acne or were overweight.  all of them had nice clothes.  even when i was that age i could never identify with those after school tv shows. didn't really have time either.  maybe i'm crazy but i always thought the simpsons were pretty realistic. thats just me though.

p.s if this show helps teens with their problems i think thats great.
