To the musicians out there, Bass specific

My daughter plays violin and this year she switched over to the stand up bass in orchestra. When she injured her shoulder she couldn't play stand up so they let her play and electric bass instead. She's found her true love.
All she wanted for her birthday, yesterday, was a bass guitar. Well needless to say that it being rather close after Christmas budget was an issue. My father and brother both were are are musicians as is most of my entire family. (it skipped me).
I found her an electric bass at a pawn shop that looked very similar to one of the ones my brother has so I asked about it. The sales guy tried to sell me a couple different ones, saying this particular one was from the 60's and has poor sound because of the pickups. I bought it anyway. Pickups can be changed.
Once I got it home, I looked for a brand name, couldn't find one. Sent a few pics to my brother and the model and serial number.
All I know right now is that it looks to be a vintage Teisco electric bass EB 120. The serial number is 741071.
I paid $150 for it, and it plays beautifully according to my daughter.
It has block inlaid mother of pearl on the neck/frets and has japanese black laquer with silver leafing with a cherry sunburst.
Can anyone tell me anything more about that particular kind of bass? I'll post a pic later when I have more time.

I think the Teisco EB 120 is a Japanese copy of the Gibson EB0. Does it look similar to this?
If it plays well, you can always have a luthier install new electronics in it, but I wouldn't spend more on the re-wire than you did for the bass.
I'm more of a Leo Fender guy myself, but everybody has different things that work for them. If my folks had bought me a Gibson copy when I was young, I'd have been THRILLED!

Thanks Dave, I come from a family of musicians...my grandfather was the youngest conducter of the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra, conducting the symphony at age 16.
He also was proficient on piano, organ, banjo, degreed in violin (my daughter got his violin after he passed away) flute, tuba, geez, not much he couldn't play now that I think about it.
My father played stringed instruments, and I grew up around the influence of classical music as well current and my brother has played in a band since he was 15 and they always seemed to practice at our house....
My mother has grade 8 in the Royal Conservatory of Music and Andrea plays piano, violin (extremely well - first chair at every concert) and now has added guitar and bass.
My youngest at age 7 now can play several songs on the piano, they xylophone, the guitar and the recorder. Andrea, Ayden, Clark and my grandfather all play by ear. Ayden and Clark only need hear it once and they can plunk it out on any instrument.
No Brew it doesn't look like that, these are the pics:
It's the block inlays that I found so unique, can't recall ever seeing block inlays, only round ones.

No idea what that all meant, but she plugged it in and tuned it and started playing in 15 min. of having it in her hands. She says she likes the sound of the pickups on this one better than on the new bass she has at school.
I just hope she enjoys it

YOu should have put a drool warning on that pic. Good lord man do you know how much I have spent on instruments already??? We have a full apt size piano (purchased in in 1961 my grandfathers that I was blessed with receiving) a 61 note electronic keyboard, a Hamer (sp) electric Guitar, an acoustic that I couldn't tell you what it was prolly a first act or some other walmart special, 2 violins, one from 1920's and the other my grandfathers, whom got it from his master in the early 1900's and is sitting in the original case waiting to find someone who can restore it with the ebony keys not machine heads, a couple crate mini amps, a treisco bass EB120, a full jade and sterling flute, a dozen recorders, a uekalailie (how the f*** do you spell that anyay) a mandolin and the request for several other instruments - including a drumset. I'm dead set against the drums, my head can only handle so much.
Of course, the family Christmas gift was Rock Band for PS2 Limited edition with a 'Fender' guitar and Andrea got Guitar Heroe III for he wii with it's 'Gibson' guitar.
Damn I never really appreciated the amount of money my brother had tied up in his bands over the years. All I can say is some how, the money loses importance over the love of the music, the magic that happens when a student finds that instrument and literally (out of the gutter all of you) makes love with music.
It's pure magic and short of bagpipes, nothing can bring tears to my eyes faster than seeing my baby girl, my muppet stand up as first chair at a concert and play that violin or that stand up bass, or the guitar, or the electric bass. And being able to sit and play Jem, 24 with her - her on violin and me on keyboard.
Is there anything better in life?
Now you about that computer keyboard, I'll send you the bill for the drool damage 
Ok, off my melancholy soap box. All you damn musicians.
So what should I bring to DAvCon anyway? hehe.

p.s. I'll try and catch a recording of her playing to show off for the family, but she's a shy one if she knows it 's being taped.

If you're lucky I'll remember tomorrow, if I'm on a winning streak you can test me at DavCon LOL.
Of course the kids laugh at me, Mom with her iPod with everything from Incubus, metallica, judas priest, journey, foreigner, hermans hermits, roger whittaker, tchaichovsky, some blue october, unkle kracker and sugar ray with a few of gordon lightfoot. Their friends all think we're kewl, (don't tell them Abba was old, they all think it's new age LOL) ours was the best generation, we got to learn the classical players, the 50's, the pioneers of rock, the metal heads, disco and even david bowie performing with Bing crosby (my favorite Christmas carol btw) - I once had a good friend ask what kind of music I liked.
I told him I like all music excepting most rap. He said ok, let me rephrase that, what kind of music do you buy? I showed him my collection. He wanted to know how hermans hermits got in with irish folk songs and canadian rock (Rush duh) and all the head banging metal to the modern day nightwish, breaking benjamin with some mozart, bach and john denver for good measure.
AFter seeing the collection he conceded the contest - I apparentely am officially dubbed by the great Onion as one who enjoys all genres of music. (Rap excluded 'cept he says sugar ray counts - I disagree)
My 7 year old can play beethoven's 9th and starwars Imperial March and theme song on both keys and xylophone - they start percussion on xylophone instead of drums, I'm sure there's a logical reason for that..... (besides costing me lots of money)
He is now learning it on electric guitar ( I need to get my grandmothers guitar, ladies guitar all inlaid mother of pearl, all original parts and pieces although I expect the brigde would have to be repaired, handed down from the 1800's is all I know...but damn this music stuff is spensive!!!!
I'm just glad to be able to pay the higher taxes that support the music programs my kids have access to. I know, throw me in the looney bin. It's worth every penny to hear music in my house at ever turn

Well it's like this Woobs...my two teens were supposed to go, the eldest will be there, the 14 y/o is bringing a friend but has gotten her a$$ in trouble again - imagine that - so I am anticipating me, an almost 16 y/o and 2 14 y/o girls (they babysit - and for free cause I SAID SO!!!!)
We can't get there til Fri. night though.
Will bring instruments, we'll have DavCon Fest.
I need this so bad this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!
