Please check in and let us know you're ok. Heavy fog caused a 100 car pile up with 2 fatalities and as many as 50 people taken to area hospitals. Updates here: http://www.jsonline.com/watch/?watch=1&date=1/6/2008&id=33819 Thomas & Gena? Karla & Ted? PattiK? Anyone else from the area driving near Madison today?

"A tractor-trailer truck came through the area and "plowed through quite a few vehicles," said Wisconsin State Patrol Lt. Lauri Steeber." All I can say is....thank God for Wendy's. We stopped for a burger on the way back from a weekend near Castle Rock Lake. 6 boys get hungry and dense fog is a great excuse to stop and eat and unfray nerves. Had we not stopped, we might have been in the thick of the wreck. That was some SERIOUS fog. I've about had it up to HERE with the Semi's. My half-hearted apologies to any long haul truck drivers here. Two years ago we were in an ice storm on the northbound side of 90/94 and watched as the semi's picked off and killed numerous people south of Madison. Yes, I know there are terrible drivers in cars too, blah, blah, blah. But when the cars are doing 20 and getting passed by trucks doing 40.... As to the above quote from the news...we had no doubt of that, as we discussed what was ahead of us. A very sad mess Bobw who needs an alternate route up north other than the killing fields of I90/94

Thanks for checking up on us. When the unseasonable warm temps hit the 32" of snowpack that had built up during December, the result was very serious fog. The visabilities were beneath 1/4 mile and it hit suddenly. So you can imagine what that can do to fast moving weekend traffic that is suddenly driving blind. I moved around safely in town, but stayed off the highways.

So glad to see my Wisconsin buddies are all safe. It was just evil out there yesterday. I couldn't see my neighbor's house across the street at times. Glad I was stuck ripping out tile in the bathroom all day.
