3 months for me with only one little tiny back-slide. You CAN do this hon. You can. I would say you only have about 2 or 3 more days of the really hard stuff...after that it's a piece of cake. However, one caveat here...you're BOTH stopping? At the same time???????? May want to give a neutral third party your last wishes..jk of course but dang!! I'd think one at a time would be better. Good luck sweetie

| We both tried that. I stoped while he was still smoking and vice versa and it was too bad to have them just sitting there and not garbbing one. So we figured we better do it together and get it over with. I an doing pretty good, but there are times like right now that I am jonesing really bad for one. But I grabbed a toothpick will stay away form everyone for a little and it to shall pass.

If it's not raining too hard in Oregon go for a power-walk. Walk hard and fast...by the time you get home the urge will be gone for a while. If it's raining, do something strenuous. Wash walls, scrub something, do sit-ups or push-ups. (at the very least your house will be clean and you'll get rid of the Christmas calories. Quitting is the best thing you will ever do for yourselves. To make the *pot* sweet, take the money you would normally spend on cigarettes and put it aside somewhere. Then at a certain point in quitting, reward yourselves. Carolyn

ok so I don't know much about alot, but this one I KNOW!!! The first morning I woke up without a smoke I figured life wasn't really worth living. I hadn't told my son who was 7 at the time that I had quit. So I dragged my pathetic butt to the coffee pot with my happy, very awake and enthusiast son listing off breakfast demands at a mind blowing speed. I started to seriously wonder how much therapy would cost to repair the damage of being gagged and bound in the closet for hour...or so. My motherly instincts kicked in and instead I snapped," Give me a freakin' moment, I just quit smoking yesterday!" Instead of the tearful response I might have expected, he looked up with huge eyes and a big smile and said for the first and only time, "I'm so proud of you mom." Now you would think that the tears that began to stream down my face were from the great love I have for this amazing kid,......bbuuttt nnnooo. I was crying because I realized I couldn't back down now. Not without sending the message to my son that its OK to quit. Holy shit, All I could see was his future drug addiction and his telling me ,"Well you couldn't handle it either." Seriously though, its been 2 years and I won't lie to you, if they found a harmless tobacco, smell, smoke, ash be damned. I'd smoke my brains out. Keep the reasons why you quit close to you. Be prepared to grieve for those little white friends. Be prepared to have your relationship effected. Alot of time the act of smoking is when you have a chance to talk. Sometimes when you quit, you also quit that chance to talk. I know alot of people will say "Don't you feel better?" To them I say fuck no. I was a happy smoker. What I feel good about is maybe I can spare my son the addiction that made me a "happy smoker". Hang in there!

Hooray for quitters!!!! Tia, it's hard, but do-able. Think ahead to what you'll do when REALLY stressed. That is always my freakin' downfall. Everytime I quit, something major happens and I end up smoking again. Well, I plan to quit again in February. Hopefully for good. LOL, colorsoverall: I know alot of people will say "Don't you feel better?" To them I say fuck no. I was a happy smoker. I feelin' that.

colorsoverall - WELCOME! I've never smoked (can't really be a ch'er eh you lot?!) but I read your post smiling wryly cos it can fit ANY addiction from chocolate to weird shit like me - I can't give up tomatoes and I eat far more of them than can possibly be good for me! I really enjoyed reading that post though! Helen

We will put aside that money once I dont need it to acutally live and pay bills. But I figure if I put away what it cost for 5-7 cartons a month (some months where worse then others ) then we ought to be able to save up enough for a nice vacation this summer. I actually ate breakfast this morning. But since I did not have a smoke for breakfast I figured I better eat something. I am not a breakfast eater. Shaun was doing better last night. He is at home with the kids until after Christmas break. Wednesday Night (day 1), I get off at 5, he calls me at 5:15 and says are you coming home sometime this year? I was in the apartment parking lot.. I am almost there I just have to get to the parking spot. I walk in the door, he grabs his coat and says bye. I asked the kids if they made daddy's life hell, and my 5 yr old says, no we just fought with him. I was sure that he was going to get cigs. But he came back an hour later, sweaty and out of breath. I think he went for a run. But we are both doing it. Last night I was trying to figure out if I could get away with buying a pack of smokes and just have 1. But I knew that that was a bad idea. I would not stop at one. I like smoking. So it is an all or nothing thing with me. colors, I totally feel your story. My 10 yr old told me how proud of me she was. I know that I can give up now. Tia

To all of you quitters: Keep going! If you slip, just start up again! Eventually, you WILL do it. I was 60 years old when I finally went to a 12-step "Stop Smoking" group and that's what finally did it. I've never been so glad of anything in my life. And: before I quit, I had a very stressful job in a police department and usually killed a full two packs a day. Thank God for every hour you're clean, and just keep trying. It'll happen!! Barbara

Good Luck Tia, you can do it. I have quit before and I'm determined to quit again, but this time my hubby is going to quit with me. Chantix worked great, but when I was put back on steroids, it was either smoke or start killing people Beth..........who loves smoking, but needs to quit too
