http://www.clusterheadaches.com/public_html/yabbimages/smileys/undecided .gif Undecided My headaches start at the base of my neck and always on the right side. If I'm awake, even before I realize it myself, I always start rubbing the back of my neck. Within 10 to 15 min. I'm in a clusterfuck, pardon the language, that blinds me in the right eye. I've found that if I take 4 extra strength tylenol and 4 e.s. Advil while its coming on, mostly I can lay down in the dark and roll with it for a half hour and rarely avoid one all together. I'm, of course worried about the damage from the drugs. However, there's not a chance in hell I'd ride one of these out without my dearest drug friends. Does anyone else know what kind of damage I'm doing else where?

HUH????? well, for one thing if I am reading this correctly and I'm sure I'm not....you tearing up your guts and on your way to an ulcer. No one here can lay down with a cluster above a 3 or 4 on the KIP scale.

| This ain't CH. It might suck, and it might be something more severe, but it ain't CH.

all you are accomplishing if you actually do have CH is to give yourself an ulcer and destroy your liver. It doesn't do your kidneys any good either. Please take the cluster quiz on the left to see if it indicates CH, then get yourself to a Dr post haste, preferably a Neuro with CH, or at least HA experience. You need to have an MRI to rule out anything else that has similar presentations to CH, but can have much worse long term effects, like a tumor, an aneurism, etc. There is a lot of great info available here, and I suggest you do some serious reading, but GET TO A DR!!! OTC pain killers will do nothing for you if indeed you have CH. They will help with shadows, but as Linda said, no one can lie down with a cluster attack above a K3 or 4. Please keep us posted as to your results. Jerry

I had a dentist tell me that the combination you speak of is good for the pain after a root canal and is known to also relieve a tension headache. Many of us have taken many combinations of OTC meds in the years before being diagnosed, only to convince ourselves that the meds "finally" kicked in after that long and hellish hour or longer. No way I'd be able to lay down. Kip 2-3...maybe---4-6 I'm rocking...7 and above I'm pacing, beating myself in the head pretty much a basket case the worse it is.

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

I'm hoping for you that this is what it sounds like: Not CH. OTC painkillers are too slow and come nowhere close to relieving the horror of a CH hit. No one sits still during a hit. Still, stick around, read the boards and pay attention. You'll find good stuff here. Good luck. Charlie

Disclaimer: I AM NOT A CLUSTER HEADACHE SUFFERER. (I support my husband who is a clusterhead and all those I know and love here who suffer from them) That said, your headaches sound more like a structural problem driven migraine - like I suffer from (I AM ALSO NOT A DOCTOR). I do things similar to the way you do (sans heavy medication) when I am struck by one. I rub rub rub my neck to try to get the pain to subside. I down my OTC pain relievers (at the dosage recommended on the bottle) and lay in the dark with an ice pack on the back of my neck for about an hour. Mine are caused by skelotal/structural problems in my neck Please get a proper diagnosis before assuming clusterheadaches. It's imperative that you treat whatever form of headaches you have with the right combination of things in order to keep you from more harm.
