Triggers:  how fast?

Some of us have known triggers, (wine, pickles, etc.)  How fast do these work?  If you have a glass of wine with dinner, and then a CH shortly after, you can thank the wine for this.  BUT, if the Beast doesn't hit you until 2:00 AM, is the wine responsible, or is it the sleep that brings it on? Angry Angry Huh Huh

I think most of us get headaches an hour or so after going to sleep red wine or not . That's a pretty common trait.

IMHO a trigger would be something that effects you soon after ingesting.  frown

A trigger for me would be beer, soy sauce, certain perfumes and the like. I get hit within minutes of ingesting or smelling a trigger.

If I am not in cycle, then red wine will cause me to have a full blown migraine in about an hour or less.  If in cycle I would get a CH in about 30 minutes after the glass of wine.  No drinking for me.

I have heard hotdogs are really bad for CH and migraines.  I haven't had any problems with that.  But I am not about to eat one until after cycle.  I avoid wine and onions. I avoid both most of the time anyway.  I love onions, but my head has a different opinion.

I've had a beer (Corona) trigger a Kip 5 as soon as it hit my gullet. Then blew to a kip 9 in 10 minutes.
I avoid red wine when in cycle. I steer away from alcohol, smokes, processed meat, and live a boring life while in cycle. Note that I stated, "steer away from" and not "quit".

For me they vary.  Spray paint, magic marker, and some perfumes - INSTANT 8-9.  Nutrasweet (aspartame) about 10 minutes.  Processed meats, ham, bacon, (nitrites) about 30 minutes.  I don't drink, so I can't say about that.  I've about forgotten how to be out of cycle. Sad

Some triggers are instant (bleach vapors) and some take a few minutes (alcohol, nitrates).

Alcohol has been my only way to reach a K-10 so far.  Bleach a close second.

The only trigger I really have had to cause a CH is alcohol and that is only when I am in a cycle.  Nothing else really triggers, except for time of year.

I also find that while in cycle all of my senses are heightened.  So anything that is disagreeable - taste, sight, sound, smell can bring on a ch.  But mostly I avoid achohol and hot dogs.

A full blown CH before the beer is half finished.  I avoid beer like the plague while in cycle.  Out of cycle ok.  Also MSG is very bad both in our out of cycle.

I haven't had a beer in about 12 years. Why take the chance. It's about the only thing that has ever triggered one on me, but a couple of sips and WHAM!!!! I love beer but not that much. Haven't tried it out of cycle (cause I haven't been out of cycle in years) - just afraid of what could happen. Wine, other alcohol doesn't bother me one way or the other in or out of cycle.

I think the barometer is my trigger.

Personally, I define a trigger as being hit in less than an hour after injesting/inhaling something.  My only known triggers hit me in less than 30 minutes if they do hit.

Only time anything triggered my head was when my son was refinishing his hard wood floors.  Walked in the door and went to my knees within a minute.....nasty  Shocked.

My alltime surefire trigger is sleep.  My head apparently hates being horizontal.  Once in awhile it lets me sleep 4 hours straight, but not often

Beer: before I have got 1/2 way thru a beer the CH starts.  Chocolate almost instant (i had 2 frickin Woppers and it started imediately, was aborted with 02 tho).  Both only when in cycle tho.  I would assume wine and hard alcohol would be the same as the beer but i dont drink wine and dont drink the hard stuff much anymore. That's for sure the worst trigger of all. Other than beer. Nothing else is really a trigger for me except for Cigar smoke. Was at the riverboat next to a guy smoking one. Couldn't stay more than a couple of hands before the night was shot.

I am so surprised someone else said bleach as a trigger!  I so prefer to clean with diluted bleach and use bleach alot in the wash and every single time it cause a kip7-9.  I just thought maybe I was allergic to cleaning Roll Eyes
