Hi Ria and welcome.

Yes, I've seen that happen to my husband too.  It's very demoralizing, isn't it?  You think the cycle has left and then it just gathers strength again.  I don't necessarily think it means that his cycle is coming back, exactly - I think it just hasn't left yet.  Sad

If you need a shoulder from folks who understand what YOU go through, supporting your husband through his pain, please feel free to join us over at Supporters Corner and check out the Family Services Team pages (the link is at the bottom of my post here).

Hang in there, Ria.

Hi RIA
I only had my CH change sides once and it went back to "normal"
I asked a respected Neuro about it and he said it was uncommon. Very uncommon.
Just under reported, I suspect.

Agree, Dan.  Mike's neuro was surprised to hear this from us as well.  Mike has even (rarely, though) had individual attacks switch sides...but only ever at the peak of a cycle.  He argued with us that this is rare.  Yeah, well - lucky us.

The good doctor was also amazed to inspect Mike's cluster bump on the back of his neck (a survey conducted here years ago found THIS to be a commonality amongst sufferers).  Said he'd never heard of this ganglion lump that most here have reported.  Yet one more example that we do, indeed, sometimes know more about our afflicition than our professionals!!

Yes..It has happened to me. First 12 years I was epesodic and ALL my attacks were on the right side. Since I became chronic a little over 3 years ago, the attacks have switched sides...BUT...I now can have attacks on either side. Sounds fun, huh !? Sorry, I know there's not much to joke around about clusters. Just wanted to say that it does happen.
Goodluck

I have had a few attacks on the "other" side...they were, by far, worse than the norm.  For me, they are extremely rare, but I am chronic.

Hi there, Ria! Smiley

My ch attacks are usually on the same (left) side, but I have had attacks on the right side, too.
The medical books say, that ch attacks can switch sides during the same cycle, but not during one day, but in my case, it has switched side during the day.

Hoping PF days to your husband,
