I've always called it "The Evil Clown" - think sharp teeth and a proclivity for brain tissue... But then, I have issues with clowns, so it was a natural metaphor.

This is as near to a suitable classical allusion that can be reached using acient Greek, since the ancient Greeks didn't have a word for a clown in our modern sense.

I call mine "The Devil", because that's what I think it really is.

In light of your question, Taraann, I took a walk down memory lane this morning (visited the archives)....
The word "beast" first appeared in a post title in April of 1999, by Holly. Jack Boyd was the first to answer her and MartyS was the first to acknowledge that he also called it "the beast".

All y'all (that's me, impersonating an American ) really SHOULD visit the archives sometime - it's a real kick seeing some of the first ever surveys, comparisons, etc. You'll find classic posts there from BobP, Jackie Boyd, Hubster, lowercase Bob (who coined the term "OUCH" and wrote Symphony for the Devil), Doc Jerry who brought us the water treatment - major history makers in our archives.
