http://www.australiandoctor.com.au/patient/040214clusterheadache.pdf This is the patient handout pamphlet that will be distributed to all GPs in Australia about cluster headaches. All Aussie GP will be able to access this and print it out for patient. It can be taken to the hospital and specialist as an education tool. What do you think ?

Can't view it but a helpful, knowledgable guide through a foggy forest could keep some from getting wrong directions.

Why do doctors take every opportunity to scold people for smoking? Do they really think we don't know that it's bad for us? I truly believe that there is no trigger relationship, yet here we go again. Pisses me off that they imply that smoking is connected to every single bad thing that can happen to the human body. "Avoid smoking in order to increase your chances of surviving an airplane crash." Other than that, it looks great!

I so totally agree Bill. As bad as smoking is, there is no correlation to it being a trigger for CH. IN FACT...as a vasoconstrictor it is on on the same side as caffeine, Imitrex etc. I'm looking for my trifold (which I''l post as soon as I can retrieve it) that I made for Californians to give to their Dr.s Dentists. Eye Drs. etc...as well as the OUCH trifold. It is similar to this one. Any and all education we can get out there for the general public is a good thing. Linda edit: I can find it on my files, but I cannot link it here for some reason. sigh...

Looks like a good pamphlet. Straight and to the point without alot of confusion. Gotta agree with the Brewman about the smoking thing though.

I think OUCH produces (or could produce) a better pamphlet. Better written and more accurate. I doubt this one was written by anyone that actually understands the disease. on Feb 5th, 2008, 7:19pm, Annette wrote: You asked. Bobw

I don't think that it reads as if written by a professional with a good knowledge base of the disorder. It appears that it is a bit hodgepodge with information being cut and pasted from some outdated or incomplete documents. It is still better than nothing but could and should be written much better. I do not know what else is available down under but I guess that is a start. Thanks

It was written by Prof John Murtagh who is the Prof of General Practice of Sydney University. It was distributed to all GPs by the Australian Doctor which is the medical journal for GPs in Australia. I recently received it and thought it is better than anything else that I have seen given out to GPs in the past. At least it is making more doctors aware of the condition which is a good thing. Linda, I would like to get a copy of the trifold you mentioned if possible. Thanks. Regarding smoking, I guess its just politically correct to advice against smoking in general. So far there has been no proof to say smoking makes CH worse, but it makes other medical conditions worse.

I have had my husband try and try to post it here. DANG! The OUCH trifold is very professional. I am going to try to get Gator or someone else to try to post it for me. | Agreed. But then the smoking issue shouldn't even be in this pamphlet. If you can...delete it before you distribute. No need for anymore mis-information than is already out there about CH. Too much info. that IS needed in there.

Linda, I am writing a letter to Prof Murtagh as well as the Australian Doctor editor regarding different points in that pamphlet. For eg I would like to add " Oxygen at 15L/Min via a non rebreather mask ". I will mention that there has not been evidence that smoking worsen/causes CH. I will also mention that the 90% ratio of CHers being male is too high. It should say CH affects women as well as men and leave it at that. That way women wont be told they cant have CH because of their gender anymore. I will also suggest a list of neurologists in Australia who are experienced in treating CH to be available to GPs so that patients can be referred to the right specialists. It would be very helpful to get the trifold for more ideas, thank you very much

I am going out on a limb here but I do not believe that OUCH US would not mind at all if you distributed THEIR tri-fold in Australia. You can ask Donna Delacerdo first... by all means, but I would think that a brochure that stated more facts would be a greater benefit to all, regardless of what country/hemisphere.

Thanks Linda, I personally dont see why OUCH US would mind their brochure being distributed world wide, I would have thought that they would be happy to see accurate information on CH being circulated. However, I will email Donna and ask her first just in case there is some problem.
