Which medicine is working

My husband had his first episode in 1997 and they lasted about 3 years. He hadn't had one since 2000 and now they are back. He had 43 headaches in December. He went the doc and they prescribed lithium and predisone, while on 10 mg. of predisone he hasn't had over a 3 or 4 Kip, so they took him off of the lithium and prescribed Ritilan. Has anyone tried ritilan and how long before it works if it is going to? We live in rural Wyoming and it is about a 4 hr. drive to our neurologist. Thanks for this great website. In 1997 we thought my husband was the only one with this problem. It's great to know we are not alone. He takes Imitrex injections for his pain. It's hard to tell if its the predisone that is working or the ritalan or was it the lithium. Thanks for all the help.

Suggest you print out the second article (Rozen's) and use it to discuss options with your doc. At the distance you have to travel, working thru several options would be useful. The Pred dose is rather low; see Rozen. The site for Dr. Robbins allows searching thru an abundance of material where you can find some comments on the other meds you mention.
