I just googled taurine.  Turns out if you are on verapamil you shouldn't use taurine.  I guess I am glad I found out now but at the same time I am dissapointed that I can't use energy drinks to stop a ch.  I was so happy to find this magic drink only to find out it is dangerous for me.  I was nice to have a backup when the o2 didn't work.

I have been on the verapamil for two weeks now.  When will I  know when to stop...when I don't get anymore hits?

Each person is different.  Can you call or email your doc or neuro to specifically discuss this as related to your dosage, and your specific problems, ch, heart, etc.

I use 320 mg verapamil daily and discussed energy drinks w/taurine with both the neuro and pharmacist, and it was ok'd for me, and I do use them and have had no adverse affect.  In fact, when I was on my verapamil escalation to find the right dosage, the energy drinks were very helpful.  When I brought in everything that I use, last week, I included a can of sugarfree red bull so my neuro could get the complete picture as relates to today.

Hi Jan. My Neuro warned me also not to take anything with grapefruit in it while taking Verapamil. I was taking 480mg daily for a year now and just started to do a taper on Tuesday this week.

I decided to see where I am at with this cycle so fingers crossed. My cycles last roughly 2 years but this one is different. More intense and got hit at different times of the day, just not at night as I usually get them. I have o2 as an abort and it is a god send to me. Good to see you are using o2.

I am tapering off mainly because the shadows have not been as present as they have been. Best of luck to you but be sure to talk to your Doc before starting or stopping any meds.

I think that's just because it renders it less effective.

Just the oposite I believe Brew.  Grapefruit can remove the natural mucus layer in the intestines and the verapamil will go into the blood in a much higher concentration.  Thus it can be very very dangerous.

Maybe I have that confused with taking antacids within two hours of certain meds like anitbiotics. I think that's the one that will absorb some of the medication so it becomes less effective.

What do I know? You don't see "M.D." after my name! Grin

My advice? Talk to your doctor - he or she are the ones with malpractice insurance!
