Temperature?

I wonder if it's possible to have some type of temperature therapy.  I know that when I am getting hit, my head is incredibly hot, then when the hit is over, I often feel very cold, as my body has rapidly dropped it's core temp.  Plus if I can put ice on the top/rear of my head while getting hit, and leave it there (cooling the brain) the hit usually doesn't last as long if I do nothing.

Some people take cold showers when getting hit, and many use ice.  Hubby uses cold packs regularly.

I don't know if everyone experiences the getting hot - I know hubby does, and like you, feels cold afterwards.  My understanding is that the heat has something to do with a histamine dump.  I can't find the link right now, but I remember reading about a relationship between histamine and serotonin - and both play a role in vasodilation/constriction/permeability.

Over the years this has been a recurring topic. Yes, some folks report usng ice packs or packages of frozen peas/corn (which sort of mold the shape of your neck, etc.) and have gained relief.

However, others have tried, with some reports of benefit, using a hair dryer aimed at the pain point (temple, for example).

Only experience I have with the coldness is from coming down from an adrenylin(sp) surge.

I know about showers and ice packs.   Wink  But what I'm really curious about is, if there could be a safe way to rapidly lower the body's core temp to see what effect it has on a ch hit.

I've never tried the ice pack thing - probably because I'm afraid it would make the beast angry.  At times during a hit, I will take a PIPING hot shower with the water raining directly over the beast.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Melatonin can lowers the core body temperature a degree or two. Not fast or dramatic, may not be how melatonin prevents (or maybe is part of it??).

I've never heard this before. Did you read it somewhere, and if so, where?

Here's one link -  melatonin and hops have the same temperature lowering effect, and hops don't lower temperature if a melatonin blocking drug is given.

Here's another article that suggests that sedative/hypnotic drugs in general tend to lower body temperature.
