Mother's who smoked while they were pregnant?

This may be a silly question however noting that many CH sufferers seem to be smokers & there possibly being a link I wonder how many CH heads mothers smoked while they were in the womb.
My Mother did with me and her mother did with her as well and we both have CH.
Seeing as how we both smoke and many people believe that exposure to Nicotine during development makes you more prone to Nicotine addiction is it possible that this could be a contributing factor?

Then the common trait of CH heads being smokers would make a bit more sense as well.

My mom smoked with me, I smoked for 13 yrs and have been quit for about 3 yrs.  Smoking & clusters have been discussed ad nauseum here and if you do a google search in the upper right hand corner with the words smoking and clusters (make sure to click on searching the ch.com site only), you'll find many posts on the subject.

I don't know.  My mother never smoked a day in her life and it was my Father that had CH.

There was a journal article done by Dr. Todd Rozen about childhood exposure to second hand smoke as a contributing factor to the development of cluster headache (and I think this article was brought up here before), but it discusses second-hand smoke, and not prenatal exposure to maternal nicotine use!

My mom was a smoker, but she quit the day she found out she was pregnant with me - don't know how long that means she smoked while pregnant, but it would have only been in the very very beginning.

My dad is a very heavy smoker and did smoke in the house when we were growing up - now he has to smoke in the garage, but still smokes if we're in the car or outdoors, etc.

Cigarette smoke is a migraine trigger for me, and it makes me extremely nauseous.  It also can trigger asthma for me, but I don't think I've ever had a CH come on that I could directly relate to cigarette smoke....

Anyway - it's always interesting to try to find correlations,  but I doubt that maternal smoking leads to the development of CH, but I guess one never knows!

With all of the people who, in my generation, were exposed to smoking parents as children you would then have to ask the question of why didn't they all get CH? Which then, even if there was a link, would necessaril tie something unique to our particular make-up which brings us back to the same point (except now you have another thing to be pissed at your mum about).

It's nice for children today that so fewer people smoke in their homes and cars (and smoke in general). I remember long drives for vacations or holiday trips cooped up in a smoky car - before I knew to bitch about it.

I don't think my mom smoked with me but did with the two youngest kids and they do not have ch.  She did smoke when I was young, but why would I be the only one with ch and not the others?

Looking back at my family, if it is genetic, it would be more likely from my dad's line since his mom and aunt both had terrible headaches, and my husband told me when we read about "dancing with the beast" that he had seen my Grandma Galli dancing with the beast.

Another probably irrelevant fact is my husband smoked for the 1st year of our marriage and I've never been a smoker, but one of our kids currently smokes, 2 used to smoke, and 2 have never smoked.  To date, none of my kids have ch.

My dad used to smoke in my childhood, but I'm not sure whether he smoked when mum was expecting me. I do know that mum never allowed smoking inside the house - she still doesn't.

I'm one of 14 kids, and the only one who ended up with CH. Mom and dad smoked like chimneys until I was about 12 years old. So with the exception of my 2 youngest siblings she smoked thru all the pregnancies. (Not her fault really, no one knew back then!!!!)

My mom did not smoke.  My dad did while I was in the womb, and until I was around 5.  I'm sensing no link here.

I was personally a chimney for years, but quit when a doc had me narc'd up.  That was the only good came out of those drugs.  But even though many of us here personally smoked, there is a raging debate on that significance.  Maybe its time to liven up that thred again, eh?

Hey Wayne
I have CH and my sister was born epileptic and her epileptic seizures as an infant cause brain damage which lead to my sister being slow.
My mother smoked with both of us.
My ex-wife smoked with one child and not with the other and its no suprise the one she smoked appears have early warning signs of ADD while the other is quite calm.
It seems smoking with a child is one of the most harmful things one can do.I myself think I have ADD at times..lol
At least future generations will reap many of the benefits.
Sorry to hear about your brother Wayne

My mother never smoked and neither have I. I've never smoked a single cigarette in my entire life and yet I have me and my son both with CH and he hasn't ever even been exposed to second hand smoke as no one smokes in my house.

Sorry to rain on your parade - don't stop aking questions and thinking about stuff though!

That is an interesting question to think of!  For the record, though, my mother never smoked, and I wasn't around second hand smoke as a kid either.  I have 4 siblings and I am the only one who gets CH (started at 14), makes me scratch my head every time to wonder what caused them?
Keep asking questions, Star
