Got SUNCT?

Hi,
Has anyone had SUNCT or can provide more details on the symptoms?  I have definitely had CH for many years including this cycle(since April), but my headaches appear to be changing.  I have been assuming I just have bad shadows and the Verapamil and other treatments have taken away the cyclical night time hits.  After doing some reading, I'm wondering if this cycle of CH could have morphed into SUNCT.  Is this possible?

Is it possible that what I was calling shadows, may be many, low intensity, throbbing, short duration hits? I have not had a bad hit in months, and I'm starting to notice the pain lower than my temple and sometimes closer to my ear.

I just set up an appoint with my neuro for next week and will ask him if I should try Indomethacin, as I hear this is the best test?

Thanks!
Bill

SUNCT apparently hurts like hell too so if it is low throbbing it is doubtful. It can also be cyclical.
Is NOT responsive to indomethacin but maybe to neurontin.

Good luck as it always fun when our heads turn into a party of additional headache types....I have 4 + a variant Grin

Sunct was one of the possible headache types my neuro considered.

The descripition, I believe is tearing and throbbing, boring, burning in the ch areas, the hits I think are 2 seconds to 6 minutes, but I thought I read an article that said they could go on for 2 hours.  The description sounds like ch and there can be up to 30 an hour, 24/7.

What I called "ramping up", my neuro thought might be sunct, from his observation.  He still believes a person only has 1 type of headache, but then he mentions that I may have 3 types, SUNCT, Paroxysmal Hemicrania, and CH.  So we are still working on the education, and he is making progress.  Lol.  His last diagnosis is one I don't like to repeat because it sets me up for comments I can't bear - ch, but not typical ch.  People say "What ch is typical?

The Indo does work for the paroxysmal hemicrania type pain which for me is just the frontal facial burning and drilling and hits of 45 minutes or less.

Maxalt melt works on the temporal spasms and throbbing.

Verapamil works on the ch hits to lower intensity.

I had success with liquid kudzu for 14 months but the company discontinued the type I used and no other form has helped, capsule or other liquid, so now kudzu is not working for me - but it lowered the general intensity of hits.

I hope you do not have SUNCT because nothing has helped me with those type of pains.

Another person here, Mattrf, had sunct.  Nothing worked for him either, and I believe he tried everything the neuro listed for him.

Currently in 2nd week of a pred taper, to try to break hits on the left, in addition to the normal right, since 10-5-07.

If you do a yahoo or google search on SUNCT Syndrome, you will get very good info to take to your doc.

Good luck.
