Back after 2 years...

Dear all, I was kind of hoping I would never return to this message board. 2 years ago I suffered a severe series of headaches which, given all the symptoms, were clearly a type of cluster headache. Over the last few days these have returned, early in the morning as always, an ice pack easing the pain. A quick question. I’m living in Thailand. The last time I took a long flight to the UK (11 hours), was 2 years ago. My last round of headaches started 2 years ago, about 2 months after the round trip. The same thing is happening again, about 2 months after the round trip. This could be coincidence, but would anyone else have any ideas on this? Last time this happened, it kind of ruined my life, for about 3 months. Any help and ideas?

You can look and look for common threads in cluster headaches but what I found out and what my nuro says is the only thing you can count on cluster headaches is that you can't count on anything. The only thing that has ever been the same about my CH is that acohol brings them on and they are always on my left side. I go sometimes 4 years without one. Sometimes every years. Sometimes Fall, Sometimes Spring. One cycle can be better or worse than another. Nothing helps 100% of the time. Not 02, not imetrex, nothing. They are a mistery that I hope can be solved soon. You just get through them the best you can. Good luck to you and keep posting. PFDAN Paula

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Hi Herbs, Welcome back. I'm sorry to hear the beast has returned. Air travel is a major trigger for me. But I get hit within an hour or so of landing. Not a few months later. I would think that it was just time for another cycle. Much has happened in the area of treatment for CH in the two years since you were here last. To abort my attacks I use 100% Oxygen at 15lpm, Energy Drinks like Monster or whatever is on sale with Imitrex Injections as a last resort. For preventative treatment I take Melatonin at night and Verapamil. Melatonin has knocked almost all of my night hits out this cycle. Take a look at these links and read, read, read. http://www.plainboard.com/ch/chtherapy.pdf http://www.ouch-us.org/medications/oxygen/o2links.htm I hope you get a break soon and that it lasts a good long time. -Dennis-
