Passing out/fainting/falling asleep

I will suddenly discover myself on the floor or draped over a counter, sink, table, etc.  Seems I'm so sleep deprived I am falling asleep standing up, even walking, in the middle of writing, washing dishes, etc.  Then I will come to.  I have bumps on my head, a fat lip, chipped tooth, from hitting the floor.  It happens with no warning.

The doctor says its from extreme exhaustion.  Has this happened to any of you?

Tara Ann, I'm sorry that you're having extreme exhaustion like that. hug

Falling asleep - sort of. When I was taking maxalt rapitab as my painkiller, I used to fall into this narcotic state about few hours after taking it. When I woke up, I felt tired as hell. My then neuro told me that it had nothing to do with the med but the "narcotic nature" of ch itself.... Funnily though that thing vanished as soon as I changed treatment.

Passing out/fainting - yes. When I was on verapamil, my already low BP dropped and it caused me lots of problems (it's not fun to nearly pass out during rush hour at London underground... Sad). I did get to see what a neuro looks like when he's white as a sheet, though. Grin That's what mine looked like when he saw my BP numbers before we changed my meds. Oddly, when another neuro put me back on it - with a higher dose - and then I didn't get any of those side effects. Go figure!

I hope that you'll be PF soon,
Sanna

Tara Ann, No doctor me but that seriously sounds as if it could have something to do with low blood pressure. A friend of mine went through a similar experience a while back and thats all it was. Couple of pills and she was right as rain again.

Tara Ann,   Prayers your way. Your story is like a guy I know. (non-CH) I was visiting one day when he took his empty water glass to the kitchen. CRASH, he colapsed in the sink then to the floor.

He 'was' a Hi-Lo driver at a G.M. factory and was found one day with his hi-lo against the wall with the wheels still spinning, out like a light. This began the search for the cause.

Turned out to be Sleep Apnea. Many of us CH heads have it also. I've been tested and don't have it. Good thing it's treatable for those that do. Hope this helps.

Doc appt with my neuro yesterday and when this current cluster is over I am to go in for a sleep study.  She thinks it would be a waste of time right now since I pretty much am getting next to zero sleep.

Hi Tara Ann,

I'm sorry to see you in such rough shape.  I have a couple of questions.

What did the Dr say about you passing out like this?
When was the last time you had your head imaged?
I assume this is a new Dr because of your recent moves.  How well do you feel he/she is handling your treatment?

I'm just worried about you and don't want to see you impaled on a fork in the sink  Undecided

Tara please be careful.  It can be a sign of a tumor or something of a serious nature.  A very close friend of mine who is pregnant with her fifth child and due in dec. passed out last friday.  She went to the ER.  They thought it was bp or high or low sugar level but also gave her a MRI and cat scan and sent her home.  They then called her back an hour latter and said get to the hospital immediatly and check in.  You have a 2 inch tumor in your brain.  They opperated on Sat and removed all of it and she managed to not go into labor and the baby is fine.  She was out of the hospital a week later.  They are doing a biopsy now to determine if it was cancer or not.  You never know hon what can happen.  How long has this been going on and when was your last MRI?  I would demand some testing be done to make sure nothing serious is afoot.

Tara Ann,

I've yet to fall asleep standing up but, if I want sleep 3/4 of the time I have to pass out to get it.  I'll fall asleep for short amounts of time at my computer, on the couch.  I have no real way of knowing how long i'm out for but, it seems to be no longer than an hour.  That's how I sleep.  Doesn't help you i'm sure but, at least you know that you are not alone ...
