I have just started to get my first of what i can gather from the web and from this site are cluster headaches. They start just as i am putting my head on the pillow give or take 10-15 mins. Its like i have been kicked in the head on my right side. This is what i dont need as i am getting married on the 20th of this month. Is this a cluster headache or a very bad migrane?

The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me till Im sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
Theres someone in my head but its not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear

Impossible to say, with the information given.

Try taking the "cluster quiz" on the left side of your screen, and let us know how you score.  If you wish, please give us some more specific details on how your headaches present.

Remember that none of us are doctors.  If you are getting headaches that are crippling and intense, you MUST be properly diagnosed and treated.

Good luck, and best wishes,

George

The pain they inspire
Draws in harmonica melodies
And the feathers of birds

Do the quiz and keep a headache diary for your GP (when you get them, how long for, what type of pain, other symptoms noticed etc).

Waking up with a headache coming on when you sleep ain't good in anyone's language.  If it is CH there's plenty of ways to control it.  Sure you'll get through the weekend just fine.

Excellent advice so far. There are only a couple of doctors on this board and they'll say the same thing, impossible to diagnose by computer.

Take the quiz, and start keeping a diary. For the time being, keep some energy drinks on hand. Rock star, Monster, any containing the combination of taurine and caffeine. When you start getting hit, slam one of those down. Many can abort an attack that way. Others use lots of coffee and just the caffeine is enough. Until you can get in to see a doctor try taking melatonin before you go to bed. It's available over the counter at health food stores. Many can avoid the night time hits that way.

But please do get in to see a doctor. Any time you start getting sudden, severe head ahces you want a knowledgeable person checking out the noggin to eliminate any thing of consequence. Good luck, if it turns out to be CH don't lose this site!!!!
