Short tempered back in cycle!

Since I started taking Topamax about 8 weeks ago it has been brilliant, like a holiday - nothing but minor shadows for the first time in months - until a week ago.

For the last week I have spent most of the time from 3 am until about 3 pm varying between heavy shadows and low level CH - that is all - nothing like a 9 or 10 - and I have NOT coped very well.

I have been really short tempered and it isn't like me. It is as though now I have a little CH holiday I am just not handling the tiredness very well at all!

Chris my wonderful supporter has been grumped at and didn't deserve it, a particularly irritating lorry driver who did deserve it also got grumped at, which perhaps isn't such a bad thing, I can be a bit of a push over!!!

Do others find that when they go back into cycle after "time off" it this hard?

Saffy

P.S. I could ask to up my dose of Topamax but I think things may resolve as I am peri menopausal and have been getting hot flushes this last week, so am waiting for them to settle before changing my medication.

I think we all get a little bit edgy when we are loosing sleep and getting hit allot and the people we love just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's the beast that is making you grump at people Saffy.  You are still the same person inside.  Once you get the pain under control you'll feel like yourself again.  Now go hug your supporter and tell him your sorry  Tongue

Hi Saffy,

I wanted to comment as I totally understand what you are talking about in regards to it being harder to deal with after a 'break'.

As I am going through a complete change in CH activity right now,  with attacks up to 13 times per day, it is all I can do not to lose it! I went to ER for the first time and I felt like such a woose (S?) because somehow, I had always been able to handle the worst the beast could throw at me. Somehow it seems worse now or maybe, more accurately, harder on me than before.

I also am dealing with peri-menopausal issues for the last 1.5 years and it has been interesting mix with my CH. I tell ya, having a hot flash, heart palpitations and a kip 9 or 10 at the same time is something else....

I might be getting soft but I can still get angry at CH and I have found that to be an amazing motivator if channeled in  a healthy way, like towards educating others and spreading awareness about CH. It might not help with my attacks but it does help me feel like I am not totally out of control and so I feel empowered when it is so easy to feel powerless.

Of course, it really helps to bitch a little also... Cool
