Typical CH Sufferer Traits?

How many here can relate to the following:

"Dr. Robert S. Kunkel, headache specialist at the
Cleveland Clinic, said psychological tests had revealed that cluster headache sufferers often share certain personality traits: they tend to be conscientious, persevering, highly responsible, self-sufficient, precise, resourceful, tense, driven and overwrought".

"Dr. Kunkel describes the typical sufferer as an aggressive, hard-driving, goal-oriented man with obsessive-compulsive characteristics who pushes himself until felled by cluster headaches or who suffers from the headaches upon reaching a hard-won goal."

"Some researchers have noted that cluster headache victims also tend to share certain physical characteristics: ruddy complexion with broken blood vessels in the face; heavy, coarse-looking facial features; thickened, pitted skin with prominent forehead furrows, and deep folds between the nose and mouth. But Dr. Kunkel and others believe these characteristics are more the result of the victim's smoking, drinking and hard-driving habits than of the headache syndrome itself."

This information can be found at: http://www.nytimes.com/health

I can relate to the first two paragraphs - as for the last... maybe another ten years of the Bud and who knows laugh

This is sooooooo NOT me!

I'm a non-drinking, ex smoking, pregnant female.  As for the first paragraph, I can relate.

This used to be considered an accurate description of us. They also described our facial features as lion like!!! (I liked that, it just sounded good!) Mostly because female CH'ers were being mis diagnosed as migrainers, since as Linda Howell well knows, WOMEN DON'T GET CH!!!! Grin

Having been to several small and medium gatherings of ch'ers, it's just not accurate. The only common factors I've encounteered is the love so quickly shown to each other. Otherwise we come from all walks and descriptions.

There was a thread a little while ago, I think it was started by clusterchris, asking for pix of everybody on here.  See if you can find it in the general post section and take a look at the pix of everyone and see if they fit the description  Grin

George Love the picture  Grin

Personally think its nonsense. What's he trying to say - CH makes us like that ?

Try CH for a few years, battling poor medical advice, treatments that don't quite work and keeping things together and anyone would be 'persevering, highly responsible, self-sufficient, precise, resourceful, tense, driven and overwrought'.

What next a paper that discovers CH is painful?

At one point, perhaps 15 years ago, I met Dr. Kunkle at the Cleveland Clinic.  My wife agrees that the first two paragraphs describe me pretty well.

I think that this description does account for a portion of CH sufferers, but it's only a small percentage, because as the diversity of the posters on this board attests it doesn't describe all with CH.  Leads me to a funny story about a friend of mine, she describes people as "you know, that guy with the shoes and the shirt and the hair".  laugh
