"This medication may cause headaches..."

My husband is the ch sufferer in our family. The first two years his cycle was to have them once a year for a month in the summer, then this year he had them in February after having had them in the summer the year before. Last night he got one, and we're thinking it might have been because he'd just started an antibiotic, the info sheet for which said that it might, among other things, cause headaches. Has anyone else found that, when a med says it may cause headaches, it triggered a CH even when you weren't "in a cycle"? We're REALLY hoping that this doesn't mean he's going to start a new cycle, especially since he didn't even NEED the med--the doctor prescribed it as a precaution. GRRRRRRR.

Others have posted about cycles being triggered by anti-biotics. If an infection is bad enough...that would be a hard decision.

I've never had an anti biotic or any other med START a cycle, I used a body building supplement while on cycle (creatine) and I really paid with a couple of slammers!!!!! Read the info sheet and sure enough that was one of the precautions...may cause headaches!!! Hoping you guys are set with oxygen etc....just in case.....good luck!~ Guiseppi

Alison, I'm so sorry that your husband got hit. I do hope that ít doesn't mean that he'll be in cycle again. I have also noticed that each and every ch preventive I've taken in the past had "causes headaches" warning in the list. It's complicated to be a clusterhead! PF wishes, Sanna

Unfortunately, the federal government's efforts to inform us also leads to confusion. All these side effects have to be listed (informed consent type issue) but you have to go to sources such, as the PDR, to see the actual % of each listed item. During clinical trials, these effects are noted and may range from 1/2% of to (any) upper limit. Your pharmacy can give you specifics, if you ask. But it's important--for your peace of mind--to NOT assume that every side effected listed is a PREDICTON that you will have this experience.

I'm sorry your husband has CH. It's been my experience that certain kinds of allergy medication (Sudafed w/out pseudophedrine being a top offender) and birth control pills can send me into a cluster headache cycle real fast. It's been a matter of figuring out what I can and can't tolerate.
