Day from Hell

Ive just been intorduced to CH after a trip to the ER, I thought my head was about to explode, after 3 weeks of  CH I couldnt take anymore and was admited to the hospital before I put a noose around my neck (jk)
After 4 shots of morphine, a lumbar puncture and a CAT scan I was informed that I have now joined the CH club.
Thanksfully after reading this forum and having a great doctor, I have my redbull on hand, my O2 tank next to my bed and my Immitrex ready to shoot, I pray I dont need any of them tonight, I can see why they call this the suicide headache.
Wish me well!
Goodnight!

Hang in there you will eventually find something that works for you,you just need to be patient and not give up.Believe me I know how bad they are,but I hate it when I hear people say they would kill there self over them. They can be managed knowledge from you and your doctor is the key.

Good luck and welcome to your new family.

Hi and welcome to your new home.  I'm sorry you have CH but I'm glad you are here.  Looks like you got a diagnosis very quickly and have a Dr that knows how to handle it.  He's given you the right tools.  Now you just need to learn how to use the to their best effect.  Post any questions and we'll do what we can to answer them.

I pray you didn't need them last night too.

Hope you have a long quiet period. But now is the time to use the peace to learn.

Explore the buttons (left) and,

MANAGEMENT OF HEADACHE AND HEADACHE MEDICATIONS, 2nd ed. Lawrence D. Robbins, M.D.; pub. by Springer. $59 at Amazon.Com.  It covers all types of headache and is primarily focused on medications. While the two chapters on CH total 42-pages, the actual relevant material is longer because of multiple references to material in chapters on migraine, reflecting the overlap in drugs used to treat. I'd suggest reading the chapters on migraine for three reasons: he makes references to CH & medications which are not in the index; there are "clinical pearls" about how to approach the treatment of headache; and, you gain better perspective on the nature of headache, in general, and the complexities of treatment (which need to be considered when we create expectations about what is possible). Finally, women will appreciate & benefit from his running information on hormones/menstrual cycles as they affect headache. Chapter on headache following head trauma, also. Obviously, I'm impressed with Robbins' work (even if the book needs the touch of a good editor!) (Somewhat longer review/content statement at 3/22/00, "Good book...."Wink

HEADACHE HELP, Revised edition, 2000; Lawrence Robbins, M.D., Houghton Mifflin, $15. Written for a nonprofessional audience, it contains almost all the material in the preceding volume but it's much easier reading. Highly recommended.

Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor.  It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Written by one of the better headache docs in the U.S.  (2002)

Welcome Mybloodyheadhurts Cheesy, Know that you are not the only one with thoughts of decapitation and such. It is good to know that you have found a doctor that cares enough to find this and label it as such, but you need preventative meds to go along with the O2 and Imitrex. And it sounds like a Predinzone tamper wouldn't hurt. Study up on this condition so that you can be aware of things that may help you to beat or at least deal with it Only you know what helps and what doesn't.  Kiss

Welcome to Clusterville. There's a wealth of info on this site. Pull up a chair and read read read. Got a question? Ask it. Nothing someone can't answer. Some of us have been here since the first load of dirt was moved in. But someone has an answer or can tell you where to find it.

Sorry you had to come down with this malady, but glad you found us. We have our petty squabbles, but we're a pretty good bunch altogether and someone is always here to help. That's what we do best - help and support.

And remember one thing - when we say - "I understand!" we do cause we've all been right where you are. No one but another CHer can understand the pain of a CH. We can laugh with you or hold your hand - whatever you need.

Hugs BD
